Ashkenazi Jews tend to cluster roughly around the Ionian Sea. Some tend more to South Italians/Sicilians/Maltese others more to Crete and even the Peloponnese. They are very distant autosomally from their former host populations in Central and Northeastern Europe. German and French Ashkenazi lack the Slavic or East Asian admixture found in Eastern Ashkenazim and cluster closer to Italian and Sephardic Jews.

I'd say more on the Northeastern Europe, but I guess it depends on the groups. From my point of view, I think Ashkenazi Jews from Eastern Europe (Russia and surrounding areas) do on average share similarities with them. But looking at it autosomally, I see that the closest groups is other Ashkenazi Jews with Maltese and Sicily being the common along the groups. So that perhaps leave me thinking that they're autosomally closer to South Europeans than Eastern and Western Europeans?

Thanks for the map that was interesting. I was initially speaking of fully Ashkenazic individuals, but I'd extend it to even mixed individuals. But I guess the latter would be autosomally different. Those a lot of number! Explains why a lot of modern Ashkenazic individuals show more Eastern/Western European similarities. Also I am having an idea of why I've seen a variety of looks among Ashkenazi Jews, could be more variable than Sephardic Jews. But autosomally Sephardic Jews are close with Ashkenazi Jews. Only the latter would be more mixed with North West/East Europe sometimes.
