Could also be Brazilian or of recent Brazilian ancestry. His name is very typically Portuguese, so Mexican seems a bit unlikely, unless he's hiding a more Spanish-sounding surname.

And yeah, I think I see some Amerindian too. He passes easily in Brazil.

I haven't found anything else, unfortunately. But he is Portuguese (or at least claims to be).
