Because with time they became homogeneus with Southern-Italians, but you can see that the Dinarid still predominate in Arbereshe population.

I probably could have said they were within the variation of the population. But to me they don't stand out really.

They, in fact, originated in Albania.

That's because the original Albanians looked more Italian, until admixture with the Turks. :tsk: :wink

To me the more Dinaric looking Italians often do resemble Albanians.. some might not agree though. So to me there isn't too much of a difference to start with.

the people from Guardia Piemontese who allegedly migrated there from Bobbio Pellice (TO) look calabrian to me.

It's very nice to see how they conserved their traditions.

These Arbereshe show some overlap with their Tosc ancestors from Albania who have a strong Alpinid strain.

They fit very well in Southern Albania.

They seem to differ from Gheg Albanians not only in faith and behaviour but also in phenotype to some small extent.

We used to look like Swedes before the Roman conquest! :(

On a more serious note, the Arbereshe don't look very Albanian, obviously due to mixing with Italians. The traditional Albanian clothes were introduced later.

LOL!Ghegs are more archaic than Tosks.Turks have been in contact more with Tosks than Ghegs. And besides that Dinarid-Mediterranid is one of the dominant Albanian type, nothing strange to look like Italians.

I was making a joke. But anyway, I'm not sure what the Turks having more contact with the Tosks has to do with it. The Arbėreshė have clearly mixed with the surrounding Italian populations over the past 500 years. This happened in my grandfather's family, too, to the extent that any Arbėreshė identity was effectively lost.

Which parts of Southern Italy do the Arbereshe occupy to the greatest extent? Is there anyway of knowing if you have Albanian lineage based on surnames? I heard the Arbereshe lived in the more Southern parts of Italy near the coastlands. I would be interested to see if I have any Albanian lineage based off the surnames I have. I am just curious about this whole affair.

Arbereshe live in almost all south italian regions .
In Sicily and in Calabria there are the most important settlements , the one of Sicily is called "Piana degli Albanesi" .
All these arbereshe places are called "Arberia" and in this site can you see all these .

If you want to see the "purest" Arbereshe you must look in Calabria, the biggest community is there, especially in Spezzano Albanese. They are mostly in the north east part of the region.

Some of the girls fit well as albanian, especially Tosk, but the males look very different, much more southern Italian, especially compared to Highlanders and Kosovar Villagers. Probably because they were mainly from cities and maybe mixed considerably with other south italians
