I managed to track down the paper trail for my Huguenot ancestors. They mostly originated in Nīmes, but moved directly to South Carolina instead of elsewhere in Europe. How much would Southern American Huguenots have differed from Huguenots that assimilated into English, German, Dutch, Swedish, etc societies?

Surnames: Chauvet (Nīmes), Dumas (Nīmes), Chatonat (Mézičres-sur-Couesnon, Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne), Blondeau (Dampierre-en-Crot), Avant/Aunant (Nīmes), DeLochiou (Arcadia, Canada), de la Via (Pas-de-Calais), Ferreris (Enkhuizen, Netherlands)

The moved from Northern France to Amsterdam. Is that name more common in other regions? Is it possible they moved north?
