Pass and classify Romanian Olympic athletes.

These are screen captures from the video below, so many of the pics are not clear. Better see the video to get a better idea of the phenotypes.

Where do they pass best as a group?

Btw, all of them are ethnic Romanian, except one woman.

I've a poll, please vote :)

To my eyes, this group is more Slavic shifted than Romanian average (due to the sports represented in the video)

That makes sense. Romanians are mountain folk.

Where do you see them passing?

They can pass in Serbia easily.

Other opinions on passing and classification?

Just say what comes to mind first after browsing the pictures :D

About 25% look like typical East Slavs, but the rest are either mixed or looking as expected from Romanians. Maybe they are from Moldova?

this group posted is surprisingly homogenous and lacking the exotic faces we see in Romania every here and there, I would guess them as Romanian if I didn't know they were.

most are in the range of Alpinized Pontids (brachy heads, round faces), though they are less Dinaric than usual, which makes me think they might be from southeast and northeast more than from southwest and the Carpathian Basin.

PS. I don't know about these ppl in the OP but there's always Ukrainian ethnics in the kayak-canoe teams and that sport has traditionally been a Lipovan & Ukrainian affair in Romania (Tulcea and Suceava counties overrepresented). but they don't stick out, they pass as Romanian ethnic as well, and Ukrainian surnames are never acknowledged as foreign, they are accepted as local, because they are so overly common (-iuc, -co, -eac etc), this why usually Romanians don't even notice them as Ukrainian, and even themselves don't advertise it, so it's understandable not to know.

voted Bulgaria-Serbia-Ukraine

I agree, they're all familiar faces, but Meds of all types are (mostly) missing, which gives an unusual Slavic vibe for a group of Romanians.

This makes me think that Meds are very mercantile, they only compete in sports that pay, like football for men and handball for women. They don't care about Olympic sports

Since the war, I started to watch a lot of Ukrainian tv and podcasts, and now I realize that Romanians have significant phenotypical overlap with Ukrainians as well, not just with Bulgarians and Serbs. I grew up in Dobrogea, and I thought that the Romanian looks in Ukrainian Romanians was due to mixing with Romanians, but now I see the same looks in Ukraine.

On gedmatch and g25 southern Ukrainians are pretty northern that plot with northern Ukrainians and eastern Ukrainians makes sense they are recent immigrant from north and east Ukraine

More Slavic looking than average Romanians, I will say. Seem to be a lot of Gorids and some Neo-Danubians, even Baltids. Not much Dinaric and Pontid Med, which can be important types in the population. But not all are out of the norm. Depends on the region.

Though I feel like if I actually grew up there, I might not notice as easily which types are more Slavic or Balkan or whatever, because I'd be used to seeing all kinds and not pick up on variations and differences as much. I think the average person there doesn't really think about these things much. While I have taken extensive tours of the entire country in recent years I was raised abroad so didn't grow up around as many.

there's surprisingly high overlap with Ukranians considering the genetic profile of the two populations and the genetic gap between the average of the two (though it's totally bridged by Romanian-Moldovans and Carpathian Ukrainians, populations which seem to be transitional between the two, so in reality you have a continuous gradient between the two, no real gap)

Serbia, in Hungary rather not already as Hungarians are already similar looking to Poles unlike those people from Romania. There's some overlap with Poles but it's clear they're not Poles. Even if they were lighter they'd still not look like us.

My first thought as well, most of them look so familiar to people of my area, I just have to say most of them pass as Polish(individually ofc)

Basically within this group I see of Gorid(muh love potato), Pontid(north variation as well) and Dinarid elements, in such order

edit: I mean Lublin region, it can be totally different in different part of Poland as Silesia or Pomerania

Can you please make an assessment of where these phenotypes pass while ignoring the pigmentation?

For instance, IMO these groups pass in Hungary:

Why are you asking a Polish troll? he's not gonna give you an honest answer, just the "we Polish nordics can't possibly look like Romanians" autism.
