She is old in the photo, but some Spanish women have a phenotype that I can compare to certain brunette alpinoide/archaic alpinoide women from the North of France and France in general.
It seems to me that modern Spaniards have something like +50% French-like admixture, from memory.

I should be able to get a photo of his mother when she was younger.

The father (born in 1899) of his mother was dark blond with blue eyes, 1m57 tall (bellow average for the time), he was a miner (you can see him in the photo of my father's maternal grandparents, there is his mother when she was little, but too young).
My father's maternal grandparents (his mother's parents to put it simply) had 14 children, so the variations in facial features and pigmentation could have been quite significant, I suppose.

This is a maternal cousin of my mother (french side), from Courcelles-lès-Lens (Northern France)

Interesting, the lady in the above pic looks like she could be from Caucasus or Tajikistan i.e unaltered alpine with dinarid, there was another woman in one of your threads who looks a lot like my mothers mother, again there is a strong med strain in this part of France.
