Last night I finally decided to pay for RAW file imputation (extending) on DNAgenics. I've heard some mixed feelings about whether it is good or not - some people say it was pointless, some say it gave them clearer results. It gave me two files: one 30 million SNPs and a second one 2.5 million SNPs, which is meant for uploading on third party sites.

For "science" I've decided to do it and uploaded it to illustrativeDNA to get coordinates and to compare results with my original RAW. I'm starting this thread early and will keep you updated when things come out!

In the meantime, has any of you imputed RAW files before? What were your impressions?

Here is a k13 comparison of my original RAW and the IMPUTED RAW :

I never tried DNAgenetics. I have tried IllustrativeDNA with my AncestryDNA raw data file.

I'm currently thinking about purchasing AncestryDNA test kit, as I see it is only 49 euro, maybe the cheapest I've seen. But considering all testing companies don't test a lot of SNPs nowadays, I wonder if there's gonna be a difference.

I highly recommend doing the AncestryDNA test. Yes, it is now on sale at the lowest price ever of $39 USA until May 12th (Mother's Day here in the USA). It is usually $99. I tested a few years ago during their St. Patrick's Day sale of $79.

Do you have DNA Genics Admixture Studio desktop app?

Basically they are GUESSING missing parts of your DNA, its just can’t be accurate.
I did it long time ago it gived me bad results. Not realistic at all.

There is only one way to find more about your genetics it is whole genome sequencing

Yes, the free version.

How are they guessing it? Are they comparing to other similar kits?

Yes, the free version.

Does it allow you to measure out just various positions you want to analyze, like 50cm-100cm on chromosome 1, for example?

No, it is locked for PRO version.

The results are out... Looking pretty off for now...

The imputed one seems to detect your ancient Bulgarian ancestry (Southeast asian traces), I would say it's pretty accurate and it was worth trying. That's why you shift towards Balkan turks, not because you're a turk, but because of that east asian trace percentage, which Balkan turks also score, for other obvious reasons.

Do I really have it, though? Or is it just "guessing" and false attributing it, as others said?

It's not 100% accurate but it's likely.

While reliable, imputation has a higher rate of error than simply reading the DNA. Here are several reasons how imputation accuracy can be affected:

The surrounding markers may be too similar to easily tell apart. This can make it difficult to distinguish the different haplotypes and impute any missing data they contain.
Haplotypes and their frequencies can vary between populations. This variation can sometimes lead to biases in imputation results.
If the marker that can’t be read is near the end of a chromosome, then there may not be enough markers on either side of it to act as indicators.

These are just a few of the ways imputation can sometimes be less reliable than directly reading the DNA.

a typical balkanite, nice.

Distances to modern samples became bad after imputation, though.

If you are interested, you can check my parents' results on IllustrativeDNA here, if it has any significance for the imputed results...
