And it still does not mean that Cultural supremacists turn their country in some mix of everything. Ottoman Empire had defined racial traits, they differ indeed, but there was never a goal to create "as much diversity as possible for the sake of diversity" but for pragmatic and sane old school goals of the Empire.

Indeed. I know of black Dutch people who are also Dutch Reformed Christians and behave accordingly. Not that you need to be of the correct religion, but it does show that culture trumps race.

Mass migration of course still brings social ills, even dangers and disrupts societies. This is culture rather than race. Society isn't as malleable.

The objective was not to create diversity, it was to integrate different peoples or races into a common project in which the cement that united everyone was a common culture (same language, same king or same religion... it depends on each criterion and moment).

That is to say, no racial mixture was promoted from power (now it is), racial mixing was simply a consequence of that homogenization through common culture.

I believe that this basic idea was, with variations in its application, common to the Spanish, maybe too Russian or Ottoman empire. Not sure about your opinions you know it better than me in case of Russia or Turkey...

With the French empire, I'm not entirely sure, it is much later and it is more of a pure colonial model. In my opinion, the English are the ones who would move further away from this tendency to unite through culture and they choose as first option the direct segregation.
