Soooo, I uploaded my file from Ancestry to MyHeritage and here is a comparison between the initial results and the upload from Ancestry. I get loooots of additional communities, which are kind of unexpected, to be honest. What do you think - which one seems more credible for you? My top DNA matches seem to be the same, how is this working then? Aren't they assigning communities based on your matches with people?

One of the most important things about myheritage are the matches, regarding communities, often a 100% Iberian individual can receive a non-Iberian community, for example England, as a community even without having any English ancestors, this is very common, now the matches are more complex more reveal more interesting things, if you find a chromosomal position in your segments in which in that position there are several matches related to each other and in their family tree do not have an ancestor who is from your region of origin, it means that you most likely have a ancestor who is not from your region, but this has to be analyzed very carefully, you can have several matches in several different countries but the majority of them will be people who were born in your region and immigrated to other countries or some ancestor of yours who passed the his DNA to these people from these other countries, for me it was interesting because most of my matches are Iberian or are from non-Iberians with distant Iberian ancestors in their family tree, but researching further I found some segments where there are positions on the chromosome where the matches are from a region between east england, netherlands, west germany, all of them related to each other in the same chromosomal position and without Iberian ancestors in their family tree, there's a lot of matches from these people in the same position, when the match has none or few other related matches 1, 4, 5 people only related to this one, is too probably false, so to know if your communities make any sense try triangulating these matches from these regions and try to find out if in their family tree there is any ancestor that comes from your region where most of your ancestors came from.

What should your composition be according to your paper trail?

First of all: There is no standardised procedure for reading your DNA. This means: Over 99% of your genome is considered "junk" DNA. Which parts of the remaining 1% are read out and how they are used to assess ethnicity estimation is not standardised. If we talking about comparable versions (or Ancestry test is even the newer) ->Ancestry reads more SNPS.
That could be the reason why the same algorythm (MH) can deliver you more details.
But; Experience and comparsions has shown that MyHeritage has a really high frequency for weird results...worst logic and the most absurd region compositions. So if you ask me: i wouldn't care about MH. AncestryDNA is much more reliable and with addiotional freeware stuff like Gedmatch calculators, Vahaduo, yourdnaportal, g25, Mytrueancestry etc, you have the all the tools to get a really promising meta analysis.

I am Bulgarian, traced by records back to early/mid 1700s, with a Greek great great-grandfather on my mother's side.
When I tested my dad, however, he turned out to be over 50% Greek on MyHeritage, and he scores Greek or Aromanian on G25 tests. Yet there is no known Greek ancestry on his side, and it is his side that I know the farthest back - his maternal side just lived in what is now Northern Greece.

I mostly scored Bulgarian with MyHeritage G25 on vahadoo, but now I score either Bulgarian or Northern Greece with Ancestry G25 (or Gagauz, but it really overpowers Bulgarian samples).

True! But MH has so many abstruse outlier results. + often reverse causality. Makes a North German or Dane to an Englishman. Literally: "You are... 60% English"
It's like making Dutch -> South African or a Portugese -> Brazillian. Reverse logic. Thats why you see all the "My shocking DNA results" videos with wide open eyes and mouths as thumbnails on Youtube. It's an ordinary superficial tool, for ordinary superficial individuals from an ordinary superficial society during ordinary superficial times... :crazy: :noidea:

point is, MH is a lot smaller effective database. link above should be newest #'s: ancestry 25m, 23andme 14m, and MH 8m, and couple more listed you can see in link.

Personally i would never recommend MyHeritage. It's based out of Tel Aviv and as far as i know they havent updated their Reference Populations/Database in quite some time. These Autosomal DNA testing companies are only as good as their database. I would definitely value the AncestryDNA estimate over the MyHeritage one. Ive taken two DNA tests, one of them being ancestry, i can trace back to the late 15th century and the percentages i received are much more in-line with the range you would inherit per generation.

From my experience they give about 20-30% of European people ~1-3% Ashkenazi (in addition to those absurd weird causality logics i meantioned earlier.)
I am considering that it is an anti-national, anti-ancestral, disrootional campaign (big conspiracy theory). Just like all those commercials where you can't find a traditional "normal", "white" family anymore. The European man is either a homo, a failure or a dumbass. The classy, rolemodel types are reserved for light skins or Africans. So for me these aberrations are no coincidence at all. The message is; "we are all mixed and multicultural. There is no need for acenstral identity...our identity is wokeness and white guilt".

I'm not so much into southern Balkan history, but without any further information this should be the most reasonable result.:thumb001:
How many ancestor do you know? In case you know 2 complete lines to ~1700 that would be about 36 ancestors out of ~512.
so basically ~2x 9 generations x2 vs. 29

A lot of movement on the Balkan. So why not more "hidden" Greek?! If you really wan't to validate / falisify this, I suggest you should verify this via the other calculators. Call me old fashioned and a pseudo scientist, but i would take a look on all all the Eurogenes calculators region scores...and also Mytrueancestry. It isn't that bad. Infact i know 2 cases (from people i personally know) where it hit the nail on the head.

Btw: sometimes the results can be explained by purely mathematical causes or bad / broken sample groups in the spreadsheets etc. (i saw refference samples with 6/15 0 vallues or a total score of 96% and other anomalies).

It's more like 2x 7 generations that I have certainty about, further back are more mouth-to-mouth evidence.

Since these two companies use different chips and test some different snps, Myheritage uses imputation to level raws from other companies. Imputation is source of the differences in results you see and its not that good method, thats why Ancestry and 23andme dont accept raws from other companies.

wow... :picard1: That instance is new to me, but it fits perfectly in the picture. So still not surprised at all.

I have 0 experience with Genoplot.
I am more experienced in Gedmatch (Eurogenes). I know how to interpret this and i'm aware of the flaws and limits of theese calculators.

It's ridiculous, MH needs their reference data updated. I get almost 8% African, I have absolutely zero African ancestors to get that much.

From my experience i am very certain, that every single freeware or fun tool produces more reliable / more valueable results then the MH ethnicity estimation.

3.45 is not a bad distance at all. I see why this oracle makes jewish combinations. it's about to ballance out your "surpluses" from the Red Sea region. (Multi populations oracle helps to mathematically eliminate the distances by balancing the scores of each up/down to the closest possible distance to your result. So we talking about mathematcally correct combinations. They don't need to be logically correct. A little interpretation and creativity is needed. Also a little knowledge of geography and hihstory could help).

If you wan't to veryfy you need to do all the calculators for a meta analysis imo.
Basically your AncestryDNA and k13 results matching pretty good on the first look. Decent enough imo. But if you wan't to "dig" a little i would do the meta analysis of all the freeware stuff. Thats just my opinion.
