Its hard to discern whether you are celtic or german danish or irish because genetically there is similarity and overlap. But for example you know immediately if you are african SSA or european like that for example. Now you can be narrower too, but you need to play a bit around with your results. If you are suppossed to be irish or suspect you are irish, i would ask Grace O Malley and share your gedmatch and G25 with her, she is fully irish and knows alot about irish genetics.

I have Irish and Northern German ancestry in my background and depending upon the populations used it can show as Scottish and Danish lol.

Genealogy is the answer.

This.
Ancestry DNA tests should only be used as a "guide", they are not 100% accurate, the best and the only confirmed way is genealogy with documents that prove a link to your ancestors.
Use FamilySearch or MyHeritage, if u are average Colonial American u prob related to many persons with big trees.

Did you get your IllustrativeDNA coordinates and results? Also, the dataset you upload to them makes a difference in the results, as they will have different markers, necessitating you create an average of the results or/and coordinates to best fit you. Some say only a full genome is going to be completely accurate, but the problem there is the calculator limitations then.

True, but you can share 30% of your DNA with one 5th great grandparent, so obviously knowing all 128 of your 5th great grandparent's ethnicities is only one part of the puzzle. If 10 were Irish and you end up 50% Irish then obviously most of the others are irrelevant. And, genealogy tends to have a lot of gaps for most of us.

Ethnic belonging is a nuanced subject. It has to do with your genetics/heritage, upbringing via language and cultural customs, etc. Celto-Germanic is not like, horribly atypical or weird to be, especially in the US. It's pretty much the most common ethnicity in the Southern US lol. Relax.

American mystery meat is valid.

How could you share 30% of your DNA with a great-great-great-great-great grandparent?

Well because science says it's totally random and you could inherit that much it's possible just like it's possible to inherit all your DNA on one side of your family from one parent's parent and none from the other.

Get your G25 numbers and use the modern individuals (not sims and not averages) model to see how you model with 4 populations as in what your 4 grandparents would have been.
