For some reason after seeing this I went and looked at the full length video. A whole two and a half minutes long. I think there's something wrong with me

But back to the video...

It's so upsetting to think of children watching this.. Assosciating childrens cartoons with black rappers, slutty dancers, sexual lyrics and Burger King? What is wrong with the world! I think you should go right ahead and make a complaint Lady L, and I'd like to think that there'd be other mothers out there doing the same thing.

I'm sorry but I think that your reactions are a bit over the top here, don't your children know what a butt is? Is that an ugly word? What is so aweful about it? Is is "sexy"? I think not.

If you had children would you want them to sing along to this? Rapping about getting with spongebob and shaking their butts?

Well the kids don't associate it with anything of a sexual nature and that commercial is not worse than other commercials directed at children. Small kids associate butts with some thing that makes funny noices and sometimes smell bad, we, the grown ups, makes the a-hole into something it doesn't have to be, we add sex to the association. It is a sick society, I give you that and all this attempts to slowly legalize pedophilia is disgusting but I have to say that that spunge-Bob commercial was imho pretty harmless. What about all those Bratz commercials? Or why not anorectic Barbie?
I'd react stronger to these commercials for example:

4 year old 'burger'

Drive-thru's - make you lazy. Walk to the store, exercise and get healthier food.
Fastfood - makes you fat because your body can't process it, it doesn't know how to because it's not real food. Their fries aren't even real potatoes.

How do you know what kids associate it with..? What else can it be associated with..? Its women in short shorts waving their asses around.

Kids laugh at farts sure, but an ass is sexual with or without the a-hole. ;)

IMO it is pretty harmful. I don't see how women in short shorts shaking their asses is going to help sell hamburgers and SpongeBob toys. There is no need for any sexual behavior in a children's commercial.

You can consider Barbie anorexic if ya want, but I wouldn't go that far. I am turned off by the fake Barbie look some women try to have, but if it is natural I accept it.

And, the video didn't work for me.

How on earth would a small child think of a butt in a sexual way? Ah well perhaps if the parents have shown them what sexuality is, then I might understand that they'd make the connection with women, with rectangular butts that make them look like cows, and sex. Isn't the big taboo of the body a bit christian thinking? Overprotecting the children from the big bad "butt" which can make you think naughty thoughts when you reach puberty?

I do think that kids and sex should be very separated, don't get me wrong! But I think that this example is no worse than the average schampoo-commercial with those women standing half naked in the shower and say what fine "hair" they get.

It's disgusting how the adverts have progressively become more and more overtly sexual in nature.
Where once an advert came on and sold you the product by introducing you to the product and what it was and what it is capable of doing; it now becomes a big sex hype fest.

Is it any wonder that children as young as 6 are now becoming aware of their sexual nature and their bodies.

Did you ever have a childhood?

My parents never taught me a thing about my sexuality or the sexual urges of puberty, but well before I had any grass on the pitch, I was fully aware of what sex was.

Where did I learn all this from? Take a guess.

I will use examples such as the ones above to show my kids the utter contempt , disgust and lack of respect I have for the people, actions and words used. Also, to mock and ridicule would help too I suspect. I would also press home the "cheapness" these people represent. (I am referring to the advertisements!!)

How on earth would a small child think of a butt in a sexual way?

Small children are not the only ones seeing it. But, what its more about is that the people who created and the people who bought this idea are selling it to us and trying to sell it to our children. So, my annoyance and my comments are because I am more angry with the people who think this is appropriate. Not over the children seeing it. ( although they wouldn't be seeing it if it hadn't been created )

Ah well perhaps if the parents have shown them what sexuality is, then I might understand that they'd make the connection with women,

Now days it seems children learn some things about sex in elementary school. They are hearing things from other children. Long before the conversation of sex needs to have to come up between parent and child. This is because sex is all over the TV screen. I am not for hiding life from my children but these kids should not know some things so early. And, it seems parents get no help from media. ;) People do these surveys of how many teen pregnancies there were in 2009 and then try to come up with 101 ways for you to stop your teen from pregnancy. Yet, to sell a child a burger king toy we need women dancing in short shorts shaking butts. So, I wonder why there are so many teen pregnancies then..? And, when you go to the strip club don't the women there wear short shorts and shake their butts..? :wink

Isn't the big taboo of the body a bit christian thinking? Overprotecting the children from the big bad "butt" which can make you think naughty thoughts when you reach puberty?

I don't know if its Christian thinking or not, I'm not Christian and I'm not sure what thinking is like for them ...:D But, what I do know is of course it isn't the big bad butt...its the big bad corporation who is going to make millions by selling women's asses, and then they are going to continue to pay the employer squat while they are trillionares! But, thats off topic I guess! :p

Like I said, I'm not looking to buy rose colored glasses for my children, I just don't see why this commercial was approved.

I do think that kids and sex should be very separated, don't get me wrong! But I think that this example is no worse than the average schampoo-commercial with those women standing half naked in the shower and say what fine "hair" they get.

I keep hearing that sex is all over the TV, yet in my 44 years, I have never seen a nude person, never seen intercourse, oral sex, etc on TV either (USA). It is all titillation. There is nothing wrong with sex, just the way it is portrayed in ads like that. We can thank the blafricans for that mentality. And we can thank religion for making sex a dirty thing to be hidden.

Why? Did you not just say that sex is something not to be hidden?

Because it is illegal.

Perhaps I used a poor choice of word. Here is what I meant:

Hidden = Not to be discussed, shameful, looked down on, pretend it doesn't exist, frowned upon, dirty, ignored...

Beorn

Hidden = Not to be discussed, shameful, looked down on, pretend it doesn't exist, frowned upon, dirty, ignored...

But then you would have to agree that there is a time and a place for sex and contexts which should never have sex?

You would not take your children to a strip club, but you'd happily let them sit mesmerised by the latest Pepsi advert with the most recent pop strumpet working her wares.

Skandi

We have been brought up to view the body as sinful and any portrayal of it undressed as sinful. In my opinion this has led to a naked body = sex mentality. I would have no problem with my children watching an advert in which everybody was totally naked, as there is nothing unnatural or sexual about a naked body. But I would not like to have them watching the crap posted above, it is not the butts per se that is the problem it is the deliberate take on sexually orientated music videos that is the problem.

The Dessert creeds put a feeling of shame onto bodily actions, and therefore all must be hidden, where as in the natural state none are hidden, however I do feel that some should be hidden, even if just to make the place look prettier and not make the less fortunate jealous.

Excuse me, but I don't think things shown on porn channels are sex! These are the perversities and fantasies of some, but not the real thing that happens in bed, between two human beings (if we talk about sex with feelings, of course).
The main problem is not in the uncovered "mechanical" part, but psychical one that could leave damage marks in an unmature mind.

I hear yah and for the most part I agree with you, the media of today really fight for decadence and advocate adultry and all sorts of degenerated behaviour. Still I don't think that the "butt" commercial is so bad, there are much worse examples, like the Bratz one I posted. Try search for bratz commercials on youtube and you'll see what I mean.

For the record, children really aren't that dumb! They catch on pretty quick as to what is and what isn't real.

The onus falls back on the parents of little ones to teach them not to fall for such gimmicks - since there is no way that such advertising is going to be removed any time soon. It isn't worth the stress otherwise.

I don't know about America, but such ads are strategically run of a morning. School age children should be getting ready for school, thus avoiding such distractions, and the little ones watch the ABC. A far more intelligent channel - without the ads!:thumb001:
