Leonid Vyazov replied to my email and he says that they have one Milograd Culture sample and they also have one Moschiny Culture and one Late Dyakovo Culture samples. He says that all three of them don't look as if they have any strong connection with early Slavs. The Milograd sample comes from Jastrabka Hillfort (Ястрабка) in Belarus, the Moschiny sample comes from Schepilovo Hillfort (Щепилово) and the Late Dyakovo sample comes from Rostislavl Ryazansky (Ростиславль).

It would indicate that Early Slavs had nothing to do with the Milograd Culture. I added these samples to my map of proposed Proto-Slavic homeland and it seems I need to move the Proto-Slavs more to the south due to the location of Jastrabka Hillfort which is within the proposed Slavic homeland but - as it turns out - the sample was Baltic and not Slavic:

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1Q6C5VJuoLW_7-ZNTONw2g-yqaAynJXA&usp=sharing

These samples are still unpublished of course, so we will have to wait for their G25 coordinates.

Do you think that the Jastrabka Hillfort sample will turn out to be autosomally Baltic_BA-like?

=====

Edit:

Vyazov's statement:

"I will throw in a new nuance here: we have one tooth from the Milograd stronghold, so it, contrary to my expectation, shows IBD connections with the Baltic BA, and not at all with the Slavs, which is quite unexpected for me. It seems (but for now, unfortunately, only seems) that everything from Belarus and to the east can be excluded from the area of formation of the Slavs."

Baltic like as in having genetic profile of modern Balts or late antiquity Balts? Not the same thing.
Modern Balts are admixed with Slavs.

btw Jastrabka sounds similar to Jastrebarsko, a place name (town) in Croatia. Jastreb means hawk/falcon in Croatian.

Late Antiquity Balts or even Bronze Age Balts (Baltic_BA).

Based on what Vyazov wrote, this Milograd Culture sample from Jastrabka does not share IBD with early Slavs.

Jastreb means hawk/falcon in Croatian.

In Polish jastrząb.

wait, I checked map. Balts inhabited even southern Belarus?

It seems so. Baltic hydronyms extend far to the south.

Location of these new samples in my map (Schepilovo seems to be near the eastern border of Baltic settlement area):

A very nice map and good information!

Do you think that the Jastrabka Hillfort sample will turn out to be autosomally Baltic_BA-like?

- This would, however, be something were we can say that it isn't Slavic-like. But what about genetics that are like the two Baltic-like Pohansko samples? History and context strongly suggests that they were Slavs. What if Jastrabka Hillfort samples are like that?

- You don't get headache with Maslomecz Goths being inmidst your assumed Slavic urheimat without them having clear Slavic admixture?

- Btw. do you have G25 coords for all the samples that you have on the map? I'd be interested in those from Praust/Pruszcz Gdanski and Häven in Mecklenburg.

- If I not got it wrongly, the Praust/Pruszcz Gdanski samples were not exactly supportive of the idea of a Slavic urheimat in Pomerelia. It now comes across my mind: Aren't the names Gdansk and Gdynia pretty odd in their stems in a Slavic context? Are there any parallels?

Not for all because some haven't been published yet (for example Lusatian culture samples UKR167, UKR168, UKR169).

Russians from ex-Baltic Schepilovo territory (Tula oblast) have a Finnic shift and elevated Siberian affinity compared to typical Balto-Slavs of North-Eastern Europe. Moschino culture was likely formed by the arriving Balts replacing Finnic speakers and mixing with them, and later arrived the Slavs.

The only places in Russia without Finnic admixture:
1. More or less all of Smolensk region
2. Western part of Bryansk region
3. Southern part of Pskov region
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/79/Lithuanian_state_in_13-15th_centuries.png

But what about genetics that are like the two Baltic-like Pohansko samples?

Pretty much the same as "What about Lithuanian-like Poles from Suwalki?". Inter-ethnic mixture between Balts and Slavs (or rather Slavs expanding at the expense of Balts) started earlier than the migration of Slavs elsewhere. These mixed Slavs then took part in the migration alongside with the more authentic Slavs.

Check out the regional Russian averages which I sent you in my last two PMs and then let me know if you still have the same opinion.

Yes this is a possibility that some Slavicized Balts or Slavic-Baltic mixed folks took part in the Slavic expansion westward & southward.

But what about genetics that are like the two Baltic-like Pohansko samples?

But these samples are like modern Balts, not like Balts from the Bronze Age or from Late Antiquity?

Yes. Then it would IMO still remain unclear whether the Hillfort samples were Balts or Slavs.

Yes. Then it would IMO still remain unclear whether the Hillfort samples were Balts or Slavs.

According to Vyazov Jastrabka Hillfort and Schepilovo Hillfort samples don't share IBD with Slavs. This indicates they are Balts.

BTW which tribe do you think are the Häven Germanics?

That IBD sharing examination is very interesting. I'd like the result of it applied to various samples like the two Pohansko samples as well as the Himera samples.

BTW which tribe do you think are the Häven Germanics?

If we go with the dating of 300 AD then I think Warini. With a small probability they could also have been Longobards.

how Pohansko samples plotted on my PCA (pic was deleted)

They are on tail end of Slavic cluster, most Baltic of them all but still clearly separated from these (late antiquity) Balts.

So you refer to the existence of one individual that is labelled outlier?

Btw. could this individual be interesting as a Slav reference? I didn't examine him.
