Now they added "journeys" seems similar to dna communities but its a new design, also announced is the biggest update so far to come

The update is rumored to be released around October 10th. Someone read their API or something, the same way they found out the UPDATE banner would come out on September 26th.

Mine currently, saw the update the other day. I don't expect major changes, but it's always exciting. Here is a Google doc (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vQKjIeDUg6oY0GDTIuW53qz407WF9RqsxoEA--JQwMzweeOd3JWq8no2Xv74Yk9xTPk9ar_5P4niSWJ/pubhtml)with purported regions to be added, I don't know the validity. Was thinking we'd get a split between Sweden & Denmark by now, but the potential for Netherlands or Cornwall as populations should be interesting for a lot of NW Euros.

My DNA results impressively match my paper trail (bio) (if you assume France = n.Italy)

A design straight from the 1990's. I prefer the previous version. Regarding the ethnicity estimate, I don't expect much, again Eastern Europe 100%.

Very ugly new design, previous was way nicer.

A sneak peak of what a Region + Subregions you score would look like, from Reddit:

Some countries/continents will have Ethnic Groups:

Is your Northwest European just English, or do you also have German and/or other in the mix? I wish that they could split these categories into British Isles ethnicities like Briton, Gaelic, Saxon, etc.

Afaik, it's just English/British-Isles no known recent German ancestors. The closest I've found in my tree are pre-1600s.

They are going to have a Cornwall region which is quite interesting to see what affect that will have.
They will also have Netherlands, Iceland and have separate Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Oddly though they are still having England and Northwestern Europe. They are separating Russia from Eastern Europe. They might have more but this is all I could make out.
They will have a lot more Asian regions and I noticed they have a lot more Indian regions. Also a lot more African regions and also a lot more Native American separated into different regions. I also noticed they will have Ashkenazi and Sephardic. I don't think they had Sephardic Jewish before.
Anyway I have no update yet but looking forward to this. I don't know whether it will affect my results. It possibly might with the Cornwall.

Yes possibly. I'm just reading more about it now on reddit and this update sounds super exciting. I think most people now will get subregions which are like the old Genetic Communities which were done more on matching populations but now they "will compare your dna to reference DNA from the countries in the region and be able to say you match XYZ ethnic group in XYZ country" (I copied that last bit so I didn't butcher it. :) ) So hopefully now I'll match some Connacht people.
People now in places where they haven't tested as much will be more like to get subregions because for Genetic Communities they needed to have quite a lot of people tested. This sounds really good.
Here is what Ancestry say
"We now connect you to even smaller, more specific ancestral regions."
"The more DNA you share with people in our [subregion] reference panel, the higher your connection strength is."
"DNA matches with this subregion:"
"You don't have matches who have this subregion, but you may soon."
So it looks like someone like me for example will get subregions in Britain as well. It is the same as what happens on 23&Me.
I presume it will be different than Genetic Communities then and not replace them but just something extra.

I would rather have a Briton category than a Cornish category, but that kind of separation might be nigh impossible. You wonder how people would match, in an ethnic sense, if there was a Gaelic category instead of an Irish category and a Scottish category, something that would show a shared ethnicity without artificial labels that divide people when they shouldn't be separated. It might be a nice addition to have, and they could still keep the separate nationalities. Say that someone is 50% Scottish, and they learn that most of that is Gaelic instead of Anglo-Saxon.

Gaelic, Briton etc are ancient populations. They use modern populations as reference panels. I know with the Ireland reference people outside of Dublin are more like to get higher percentages of Ireland and there is less overlap with Scotland, Wales and England. People on the east coast and Dublin get more overlap with Britain. I don't know about Wales but I'd say North Wales might be more distinctive. Possibly down the track they might be able to offer people more ancient matching using ancient genomes. They do have ancient Gaelic genomes but the only Irish samples I've seen released so far are some of the Kilteasheen samples but they are more from the medieval period. They do have genomes from all periods in Ireland but none of these have been released yet. They will most probably release some studies first before releasing any of these ancient genomes. I wouldn't be surprised if this sort of thing is offered in the future where you can see if you have Gaelic, Briton, Saxon etc. Which would be brilliant.
At the moment you won't get this because modern day populations are not going to be pure Gaels or Britons although I'm sure some people could match 100% Gael etc. We need the ancient genomes though so I'm sure it will happen down the track.

You listed the reasons why I said that kind of separation would be night impossible. Just ordinary Irish people would have Gaelic, Norman, Viking, etc. in the mix, a situation that might cause poor Reed Johnson to have a nervous breakdown (was his ban mandatory or voluntary?). I do think that it helps that many Eastern English people score less British because it shows their links to continental Europe. In a certain manner, that's like having an Anglo-Saxon category if their forebears have been in England for over a thousand years.

You and Raedwald might be more likely to get Cornwall going by this. Look where it is also found? Although it does circle all of Ireland and Britain.

I didn't know Reed was banned. Possibly he might have asked for it.
I do believe that they could give you a breakdown of ancient populations because they also have ancIBD now. So I do believe it is quite likely that these tests will be offered to people in the future.

I really hope this new category doesn't become a huge problem with overlapping with other samples then.
Coming soon... Fingers crossed that it will be sooner than MyHeritage's soon update.

I have known Cornish ancestors in my tree, but I don't know if they would be recent enough to show anything for me autosomally exciting nonetheless.

I'll be surprised if there is not changes to most people's results. They have done quite a few adjustments. England and NW Europe is much smaller so hopefully people that don't have English ancestry will get less of that. I could see English getting things like Dutch though.
Looking at France it now encompasses all of the British Isles as well.

Ireland still goes into France but mostly Brittany like previously. It doesn't spread as much as Scotland.

I think it is great how they are trying to split up regions. NW Europe is getting a lot of changes. This update is going to be huge due to all the changes. I don't think my results will change greatly but a lot of people will see quite a bit of changes. I'm interested in the more localised areas I'll get

So it should happen tomorrow? Well, not expecting any changes for eastern Europe...
