Amigo, this calc is amazing❗️:thumb001:
I am not joking.
Thanks to you today I think I found out something I've always tried to unserstood and I think finally I could because of this calc.
The calc that Dr. Davidski G25 sent to me included a population called "Sokhta_Iran" or something similar, and the same happened to others of G25.
And now I understood.
Alans where apparently an originally "iranian" folk that settled in Iberia, so that could explain all this mistery.
This calc is really amazing. :thumb001:

Mmm I'm not an expert, I feel like something is wrong, in the sense that I don't really get any significant distance towards any sample, it seems like it's a study created specifically for Basques or Catalans, but if you look at us Aragonese and especially Iberians who are from the West like me or the Portuguese, we get too far margins of distance towards these samples.
Maybe you should increase the grill of the sources? For example, we Western Iberians could use Suevi genetics very well (in fact I don't understand adding Alan markers, since they didn't stay long on the peninsula and were expelled to North Africa where they created a kingdom with the Vandals).

That's kind of how it works with Roman Age to Medieval iberia, there are mainly three kinds of samples, the Basque type (some even more WHG than them), the Modern Catalan type (not exclusive to Eastern Iberia, there are Portuguese and Central Iberian samples that match that too), and what I call Mozzarabic type (high North African, and common in Iberia since the Roman Age and also common in Medieval times)

Okay, my friend, I don't want to make you feel bad, but I have to say what seems to be true (and it really has all the chances of being a true hypothesis), that taking into account that according to 23andme and FTDNA, 99% of my ancestry is from the Iberian Peninsula (and specifically from Spain), however, with your test I barely get a 0.32 proximity to the closest sample, while a modern Ossetian (which obviously is not exactly the same as an Alan) gets a:
0.04504109 Alans:B
0.05256718 Alans:A.
Let me tell you, but this doesn't make any sense.
1) In the Basque Country, there are barely 2 million Basques (in reality, half of them are no longer), compared to 48 million Spaniards, or compared to 54.6 million in the entire Iberian Peninsula, this represents barely 4.2% of the Iberian population. During the reconquest (in which the Basques did not participate directly, which is even more ridiculous), the Basque territory was even more depopulated, while Castile was heavily populated, so at most the Basques would represent 2.5% of the total population in the best of cases.
2) The Alans were one of the invaders of the Iberian Peninsula, but they were the ones who stayed the shortest time and the ones who mixed the least with the local population, both they and the Vandals were quickly expelled by the Suevi and the Visigoths to North Africa, that is, the only kingdoms of Germanic tribes that remained and mixed with the population (and in a very slight way, since they were aristocracy), were the Suevi and the Visigoths (and also in this order, since the genetics of the Suevi have persisted more thanks to the geographical isolation of Galicia)
3) The Catalans in the Middle Ages did not even exist, and much less the modern Catalans. In fact, the situation in Catalonia has always been one of division, between the taifas of Lérida or towns like Urgel where the Mozarabs developed the Proto-Valencian language (see Organyà), and the counties of Barcelona and Girona where the population was more Gothic and the extinct Provençal language was spoken. In fact, Catalan means the same as Castilian, and means the guardian of a castle, Catalan comes from Castlà (Castilian in Catalan), but it is a name that was created precisely in an area that never had anything to do with the county of Barcelona politically or even in terms of population, but with the county of Urgell or Pallars Sobirà, much closer to Aragon and even Castile.
Estimating the Catalan population at that time, it was insignificant (barely 300 thousand inhabitants), compared to Castile, with a population of 6 million (among the most populated kingdoms in Europe at the time). Doing the math, that means that Catalonia represented 4.7% of the population of Castile + Catalonia, but if we add to that the inhabitants of Al-Andalus (more populated than Castile) or the Crown of Aragon, Catalonia probably does not represent even 2% of the Spanish population, and including Portugal even less.

https://www.anabad.org/epidemias-en-la-ciudad-de-barcelona-1333-1651/
In short, you are creating a medieval model based on:
1) A minority Basque population that also never participated in the reconquest.
2) On a Germanic tribe that never established a stable kingdom in the Iberian Peninsula and that was also quickly expelled.
3) On an even more minority population (almost anecdotal), which was the Catalan population and that also surely has nothing to do with the current one, since after the black plague in Barcelona and Girona, they had to repopulate with Aragonese, in the year 1333, great famines, and plague so that in a short time more than ten thousand men died. The city of Barcelona lost 20% of its population (and this was almost the end of the Middle Ages).
That is to say, your model has nothing to do with a supposed inhabitant of the time of the reconquest, but with a Hispania that never existed.
I suggest that if you want to make a medieval model of Hispania, you get samples of Visigoths, Suevi, and mainly medieval Castilians, medieval Portuguese, medieval Aragonese, a Navarrese (or inhabitant of Pamplona) from the Middle Ages, medieval Mozarabs from Toledo, medieval Andalusians, and please ignore the Basques, the Catalans, and the Alans.

I don't think you know what I was talking about and how things work, I wasn't talking about the groups themselves, I was talking about genetically similar groups, and, btw, it's not that MY samples are like the way I said, ALL samples are like that, pretty much. And, btw, not because you don't match them it means that somehow they're not valid, you're a single person that is a mix of ancient people, they don't need to match you.
Alans are NOT Germanic, and if you didn't have them, (or some of their influence) in you you would not match them in this calculator, like many Iberians don't, also, don't forget that all Iberians were very similar to basques before the Roman Age.

Let me explain it more simply.
- Neither in the Middle Ages (nor now) was there Alan genetics in the peninsula.
- In the Middle Ages, the current Catalans did not exist, therefore it makes no sense to establish it as a comparative model of the north of Hispania at that time in any way, because it was not even the genetics the same as that of the current Catalans (created from the subsequent repopulation by the French as the reconquest progressed and only after these groups mixed with those in Iberia).
-In the Middle Ages, the Basques were not the basis of the Spanish population. For example, the Galicians and Portuguese were strongly influenced by the Suevi, the Cantabrians and Asturians (Montanians and Cismontani) had a strong presence of localized R1a that is surely fading away today, the Andalusians had a strong Berber component (I think you have respected that), the Navarrese had very typical markers of Aquitaine and France and they could indeed resemble a mixture of the Basques that you mention and the current Catalans, the Aragonese had a strong presence of I2a1 that I do not think either the Catalans or the Basques represent...
So my question is... if you have only represented the inhabitants of al-Andalus, what the hell have you really represented?
You can include the Frisians, the Eskimos and the teenage Ninja Turtles if you want, but none of those groups were present in Iberia...

If what you are designing is a calculator just after the fall of the Roman Empire, then you should not call your calculator Reconquista, but PRE-ISLAM INVASION IBERIAN CALCULATOR
To design a calculator of reconquista you need to represent the living forces of the reconquista, the kingdoms of Navarra and Aragon instead of the Basques, the kingdoms of Leon and Castile instead of the Alans??, and the Galician-Portuguese that you have forgotten.
Putting the poor and rural Basques isolated in their villages, or the proto-Catalans (in fact Catalonia was not created as a principality by Aragon until 1343) those who barely managed to resist the attack of Al-Manzor and almost died from the black plague does not make any sense, in fact they have not been protagonists in the repopulation (not even of Valencia where the majority of surnames are Navarrese, Aragonese and Castilian).
If you do not represent the kingdoms that managed the reconquest, you cannot call this calculator as such.
What I am telling you is so important that without the kingdoms of Aragon, Leon and Castile, Spanish would not even exist.
[GRAMMAR OF THE VULGAR LANGUAGE OF SPAIN]
Grammar of the vulgar language of Spain.— Louvain: By Bartholomé Gravio, 1559.
The fourth language is the one called the vulgar language of Spain «because it is spoken and understood throughout the country generally». He contrasts this denomination of vulgar with the commonly used ones of Spanish or Castilian. The first is not appropriate because, as we have seen, it is not the only one spoken in Spain, nor is it the oldest or the most illustrious; the second is not exact either because «it is an ambitious name, and full of imbibition, since it is clearer than the light of the sun, that the kingdoms of Leon and Aragon have greater and better rights in the vulgar language than the kingdom of Castile». As for Portuguese, it is legitimate to consider it a fifth language because of its particularities, or to include it in the vulgar language, since "it is not really separate from that one."
Of course, the medieval kingdoms do not resemble the Basque ones (to begin with because these kingdoms were repopulated by Mozarabs who came from Seville, Cordoba and Toledo).
This should have been explained to you by Cristiano Viejo, the history of Spain is already sufficiently distorted without trying to distort it even more.

Since you are not able to understand what I tried to explain to you, the samples I used represent medieval northern Iberian Christians and southern Mozzarabs, modern Iberians show a MIX of both populations. I DID NOT use any Basque or Catalan samples, is that clear enough for you?
You shouldn't match Alans if you didn't have any Caucasian/Iranian influence, which does not seem to be the case, do you understand now?
This calculator is about GENETICS, not POLITICS.

This calculator is about GENETICS, not POLITICS.
In the first place it would not make sense to match alani because they did not leave any genetic presence on the peninsula.
Secondly, I have taken markers from those parts (iranian) on all the other calculators.
Thirdly, you do not include the Suebi or the Visigoths??¿?¿?¿?¿.
Fourthly, the current population is not a mixture of the populations you are mentioning, because kingdoms such as León, Aragon or a large part of Castile were repopulated by Mozarabs from the beginning, that is, before reconquering, therefore before they were much more Mozarabic. that now contrary to what you claim.
Fifth, all towns like Villafranca (which exist throughout Spain), were repopulated by French practically at the end of the Middle Ages, and that is where the Yamnaya component increases.
I still don't understand shit what parallel world your calculator is about that has never happened on the peninsula.

A perhaps controversial opinion: I think that not only Ibero-Americans, but also only-euro Iberians should add SSA to any calculator. I'm not sure if the same is true for southern Italians or eastern Mediterraneans, but it seems to be the case for Iberia.
I recognize the limitation of my opinion, as it is based on an inductivist reasoning that, to make matters worse, is with few examples. But it is hard to consider as a coincidence the frequency with which I see Portuguese and Spaniards scoring approximately 1% SSA, whose increase can significantly change the general calculation.

I did use the LATAM add-on in the op. Sometimes it just screws up things for Euro as some ANE might read as Amerindian but it's more a problem with ancient calculators than relatively recent references.
