Old Great Bulgaria was a 7th-century Turkic nomadic empire formed by the Onogur-Bulgars on the western Pontic–Caspian steppe. Great Bulgaria was originally centered between the Dniester and lower Volga.

UKR027. Velyka Znamianka, kurgan 18, burial 1. Inlet burial. Excavated in 1996. The burial was robbed and completely destroyed during the robbery. It was located at a depth of 0.7 m. The pit had a rectangular shape, measuring 2.35×1.1 m, elongated in a west-east direction. In the southeast part of the pit, the remains of a wooden coffin were preserved. Above the burial, at a depth of 0.05–0.15 m, a horse’s skull was found, at the base of which was a bone buckle and fragments of reins. At the same depth, small fragments of an iron sword were found. There were two bone clusters near the southern wall of the pit. The eastern cluster contained a skull, ulnas and radiuses, pelvis, femurs, and vertebrae. In the western cluster, located 0.4 m away, tibia bones were arranged. Many small fragments of a sword were found on the bones. To the north of the skull, a silver plaque was found. Under the western cluster, gold foil, two bone inlays, two bronze buttons, fragments of a sword, a fragment of an item with rivets, a fragment of a ring, three iron arrowheads in a decayed leather case, and a bone cheek-piece were found. Chronology according to archaeology: 12th c. CE.
