View Full Version : Genetic differentiation of Balto-Slavs

To verify the period of division of the Balts from the Slavs, I used all available samples from the period 2400BC- 1200BC (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jb3cYq0OfKppw6LVUrVAmvO6NwNDZjny/view?usp=sharing). It can be said with high probability that the division took place in the late era of the Strzyzow culture. At the same time, there was an expansion of the more Slavic faction (possibly more close to Fatyanovo) to the west, where the Slavs created the Trzciniec culture. The clear connotations of Trzciniec with Füzesabony culture in Hungary may also explain the increased EEF among the Slavs.

The thesis of Russian linguists about the early division of the Slavs and the Balts can be genetically justified.

Below is a chronological analysis of subsequent archaeological periods

1200BC Late Trzciniec

Differentiation of the Balto-Slavs.

The Balts remain in Strzyzow, and the Slavs build a separate culture of Trzciniec.

The Balto-Slavs maintain unity in the Strzyzow culture, but there are clear signs of an elevated EEF among the Slavs.

Among the Balts, there is a clear signal of their correlation with Lithuania (Lithuania_LN_o.AG:Spiginas2.AG__BC_1930__Cov_76.4 7%,0.12862,0.117801,0 .099937,0.116281,0.054779,0.036535,0.00893,0.00946 1,0.012476,-0.037541, 0.011854,-0.015736,0.031516,0.022295,0.000543,0.012994,0.011 604,-0.0002 53,-0.000251,0.016258,0.012104,-0.003462,-0.010476,-0.027474,0.000359). Whether their movement northward or their subsequent mixing with the pre-Baltic population is already visible requires further investigation.

2000BC

Both groups are quite similar. However, there are clear Czech and Fatyanovo signals among the Slavs.

2400BC CW period

Again at a distance, we see the original Polish CW profile of the Balts and clear connotations of the Slavs with the Fatyanovo population. Whether the early BB signal in the Slavs is just an avatar requires further verification.

In the analysis I intentionally removed ParaSlavic outliers from Unetice and Tollense.

That map showing the zone of the Trzciniec culture is about the size and area where I think the ethnogenesis took place for the Slavs. In my mind it could be bigger. Celtic culture was fairly widespread as well from Britain and Ireland to Iberia and central Europe.

Continuation of the theme of Slavic ethnogenesis. (https://www.theapricity.com/forum/showthread.php?392197-G25-test-analysis-supported-by-IA&p=8158588&viewfull=1#post8158588)

With the support of AI, I decided to analyze, in a different way, the differentiation of Slavic and Baltic groups.

I used the following samples for analysis.

Baltic,0.1354096,0.1248596,0.0851556,0.083037,0.04 3785,0.031109,0.011639,0.0160688,-0.0028562,-0.0331962,-0.003415,-0.0125126,0.0221584,0.0298256,-0.0119514,0.0012044,0.0040726,-0.0004682,0.0028402,0.0033852,-0.0038388,-0.0057988,0.0083476,-0.0080288,0.0006036

Slavic,0.131316,0.119002,0.071667,0.06122,0.036402 ,0.02193,0.009715,0.012141,-0.00186,-0.02216,-0.00159,-0.00799,0.015312,0.021257,-0.01056,-0.00116,0.003795,-0.00052,0.002058,0.001577,-0.00338,-0.00377,0.004307,-0.00318,-0.00019

Slavic sample is closest to early Slavs and groups of Northern Slavs. In turn, for the Balts, I took the average of the values from modern Latvia and Lithuania, cutting off the extreme samples. Unfortunately, we do not have any other reliable Baltic samples. It is highly probable that the Balts of today are more similar to the Slavs than in the Middle Ages, so the differences must have been even more significant then.

https://i.ibb.co/kVzcfQrK/output-79.png (https://ibb.co/0p1JShWq)

The analysis of ancient samples indicates a slight deviation of the Slavic population.

https://i.ibb.co/3yrVNqYG/output-83.png (https://ibb.co/WWx7ywpq)
The analysis of all similar samples indicates that both groups are similar but different. The differences in the early samples are probably the result of subsequent differences after the final differentiation. Both groups were certainly identical up to a certain period.

https://i.ibb.co/v4crznJ1/output-87.png (https://ibb.co/QvJqmw69)

The analysis of the Unetice Trzciniec and Konoviz samples indicates greater similarity of the Slavs to the Czech samples. For Trzciniec it also indicates greater proximity to the Balt population. In my opinion, the alleged greater proximity of the Slavs to Unetice is only apparent and results from the Balto-Slavic differentiation within the late Trziniec. Here I must add that I am verifying my previous theses. The connection of the Slavs to Knovitz is a more probable event. Unfortunately, as we know, we do not have intermediate samples from Lusatian Poland.

https://i.ibb.co/PbjVDqD/output-2025-01-31-T192210-181.png (https://ibb.co/MjSJBFB)
In order to date the Balto-Slavic split, I performed an analysis focusing on samples with minimal genetic differences to both groups. As we can see, the Trzciniec samples indicate equal distances to both groups, which may mean that up to this point they are indistinguishable.

After this point, there is a period of differentiation, with key events indicated by specific post-Trzciniec samples.

In order, these are the population of Central Europe (possibly proto-Celts) - Knoviz, the Scythian/Black Sea population, with the participation of Greeks, and again the Celts, and finally the Germanics, with the main interaction probably within the population of Wielbark. The high similarity of the population of Slavs, but also Balts, to such an early Scandinavian sample is very puzzling. It either proves trans-Baltic connections or is a confirmation of mixing with the Goths in the population of Wielbark.

Below are key samples deviating the Slavs from the Balts, indicating the absorption of significant non-Baltic components by the Slavs in the post-Trzciniec era. All of them and each of them individually are the source of high secondary absorption of the EEF component in Slavs.

One more element is worth paying attention to, namely the appearance of Scandinavian Germans in the late Trzciniec era. Unfortunately, without further samples from Poland, it is difficult to draw any further conclusions. Certainly, the spread of cremation throughout Northern Europe during this period makes it difficult to conduct genetic evidence.
