It is odd. Considering how many Irishmen fought and died with both Nelson and Wellington, you'd think the monument would have been more prominent in the minds of Irish Republicans. It seems to have been unpopular in being destroyed. But, this is the nature of politics and all the grand gestures of revolt.

Right. Why couldn't those Irish neo-Republicans be proud of Ireland's achievements as part of the Union?
