Interesting, if one may think that iberians have north african genetic influence because a tiny % that uses to show in iberian people genetic tests, then what about the other way around?
Moroccans have a quite significative iberian influence, because of Reconquista and following expulsion of muslims and converts.

Has the Strait of Gibraltar really been such a big genetic barrier, in either direction? Absent the Trans-Sahel slave trade and associated movements, would Spaniards and Moroccans look quite so drastically different as is generally the case nowadays?

Coon would think so as he said that Upper paleolithic survivors were more established in Morocco than in Spain lol, of course the straight is a barrier but it's more the location of Morocco generally being distant from Europe which makes it more different i.e the UK at least was connected to Europe recently in the last ice age.

Coon died in 1981, I guess he wasn't very up to date in modern population genetics.
Before World War II, Coon's work on race "fit comfortably into the old physical anthropology",[17] describing the racial types supposedly present in human populations based on visible physical characteristics.
Coon is a fossil in this science, and the most clumsy user here in TA could give him a few lessons about the races of the world.

Hope this clears up confusion about the similarity between spaniards and north africans

The cultural barrier, racist barrier?, which froze the process of mixture of the two different populations that inhabit India for millenia.

So 'cultural barriers' are in fact more effective preventing racial miscegation than physical ones.
