The dire wolf, an extinct species for more than 10,000 years has been brought back by the company Colossal Biosciences:

So quit your whining anthrotards, racialists and lowkey nazis: the white race will never disappear now... you can always revive your grandpa or something.

That's actually fascinating and scary at that same time, obviously those animals went extinct because their pray was gone or not enough to maintain their numbers .

Does that thing has "soul"?

A dire wolf is bigger and has stronger jaws than a grey wolf. What could go wrong? Haven't these geneticists seen Jurassic Park? I love genetics and fear its misuse at the same time. To paraphrase Jeff Goldberg's character, we're like kids playing with their father's gun.

At this point scientist probably are capable to create a zombie virus similar to resident evil.

They also want to bring back a mammoth lol

I read that it's not actually a dire wolf, but a genetically engineered regular wolf (regular wolf with some genes edited).
Afaik wolly mammooth can be brought back the same way (editing some genes of an elephant).

Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should.

Dire wolf is cool but i love octopuses, they can edit their own RNA. So instead of being locked into their DNA blueprint like most animals, they can rewrite their own protein instructions in real time, esp. in their brains. Basically nature's hackers. ;) So while we are engineering extinct beasts back into existence, there is stuff alive right now doing sci-fi level biotricks we barely understand.

What's next? creating dinosaur hybrids? Since chicken and certain birds are the only closest living species to dinosaurs.

I'm still fascinated by how technology has already advanced nowadays!

Maybe one day in the near future people will have Dodos as pets! Who knows, right?

Gene editing of the related grey wolf, using the known genome from recovered ancient Dire Wolf DNA....implant into a domestic dog surrogate & voila the Dire Wolf is de-extinct

Woolly mammoth & Tasmanian tiger will be next

This is the company responsible: https://colossal.com/de-extinction/

I had wanted to buy shares in this company. However, it's a private company who's stock isn't publicly traded

Good thread Beo :thumb001:

This should be the default thread for news on this topic (not Incal's)

So is it a true dire wolf or not?

It's not, it's not exactly the same as the extinct dire wolf, it's some sort of weird hybrid. But every platform will call it dire wolf because they can get more clicks that way.

What are their plans with the dire wolf anyway? It will be displayed in zoos I guess, no other use. No way they will realease them to the wild.

Yeah that's lame, news outlets need to call it what they are instead of spreading false information.

So is basically a gray wolf with some dire wolf genes edited ? How much Is dire wolf? %

I should probably sue one of those organizations for falsy spreading reports and wrongfully excitement.
