I read here that Danes have Slavic admixture. I couldn’t find anything solid about it on the internet.

Can someone elaborate this?

This British guy scores around 10% Slavic and I believe it came with Danes to British Isles because Brits do not score Slavic. His closest population is Danes also.

I believe southern/western Danes tend to score it, but it's mostly in the single percentages (Polabian pirates). Far less than Eastern Germans.

There were Slavic settlements on Danish islands in the Early Middle Ages.

If no one verifies the dating, I believe it was earlier.

From ChatGPT:

The presence of Slavic admixture in Danes is a fascinating and relatively recent genetic and historical phenomenon, mostly tied to the Viking Age and early medieval period (roughly 8th to 12th centuries AD). Here's a breakdown of when and how it likely happened:

️ When did Danes receive Slavic admixture?
Main period: Between 800–1200 AD, overlapping with the Viking Age and the early Middle Ages.

Some admixture might have continued into the High Middle Ages (1200–1500 AD) due to sustained contact.

Genetic studies of ancient DNA show that this Slavic component appears after the Bronze and Iron Ages and is not present in earlier Scandinavian populations.

 How did the admixture occur?
Migration and Settlement (esp. from the south Baltic / Pomerania)

Slavic tribes (like the Wends) lived along the southern Baltic coast (modern-day northern Poland and northeastern Germany).

They had regular contact with Danes, both through trade and conflict.

Slavic slaves or settlers may have been brought into Danish lands (especially during Viking raids or peaceful integration).

Intermarriage and Cultural Integration

Over time, Slavic individuals integrated into Danish society.

This is supported by archaeological evidence in eastern Denmark (e.g., Zealand, Lolland) showing Slavic-style pottery and artifacts.

Military Alliances and Hostages

Danes and Slavs sometimes formed alliances, and elite exchanges or marriages could have brought Slavic genetics into Danish elite families.

Trade Networks

Danish towns like Hedeby and Ribe were cosmopolitan Viking Age trade centers where Slavic merchants or workers could settle.

 Genetic Evidence
Ancient DNA from Viking Age and medieval burials in Denmark show small but clear Eastern European (Slavic) genetic signals.

This Slavic component is generally low (a few percent) but statistically significant and absent from earlier Scandinavian populations.

Modern Danes still carry this trace Slavic ancestry, more in eastern parts of Denmark.

Maybe they got it indirectly, through mixing with Germans.
