so it points to a sort of a massive conversion to Judaism of people in Italy at some point - late antiquity, early middle ages. but they all also have Levantine genes so some Levantine actual Jewish group was there involved as well

A lot of Jewish groups are converts, Yemeni, Ethiopian, Indian and to lesser degree Iraqi and Iranian jews
The funniest are the Ethiopian and Yemeni Jews who are literally 0-5% Judean

Cca 25% Southwest Asian ancestry is not that small, but neither dominant.
It is not negligible, for sure.

The sample analyzed is only 152 individuals. It is not made clear if they are just Eastern Ashkenazim or also some Western AJ as well. That is important to know.
