I am trying to find out more about the Scottish surname McEachran. I was able to go back to the 1700's in Cambeltown, Argyllshire, Scotland. I know that the name means "Son of the horse lord" and I am curious to know if this family name really belongs to Clan Donald? Also, I have read they were settled there before the kingdom of Dalriada, but I would like to know more! Does anyone know of any good books or references for this surname or related surnames?

I'm of the MacDonalds of Sleat and I remember there being quite a few MacEacherns at our Clann picnics throughout the years. I've always known the MacEacherns as being of our Clann.
