This year so far is our best year. I think we could beat Serbia and come out third place or better. :) That is, if the referees don't cheat.

The EHF without any notice or explanation has replaced two very experienced Russian referees three hours before the start of the Macedonia - Germany match.

This bizarre decision as one would expect created lots of talk among Macedonian fans who ironically started talking since yesterday that EHF will work hard to give advantage to Germany as they had unexpectedly lost their first match to the Czechs.

The Germans carry a large clout within the EHF, didn't like the Russian officials and asked for their replacement. EHF swiftly removed Zolton and Volodkov, replaced them by Icelanders Leifson and Palson.

Macedonia is fortunate Greece can't qualify for handball events, otherwise the EHF would have appointed Greek referees, as FIBA did in four of Macedonia's matches, including the semifinal against Spain.

Theodora Smilets was a Bulgarian princess and queen consort of Serbia, the first wife of king Stefan Uroš III Dečanski of Serbia.
Theodora was the second daughter of Bulgarian tsar Smilets and his Byzantine wife, who in the histories was called just Smiltsena (Bulgarian: Смилцена; the wife of Smilets) without a name being given, but who was the daughter of sebastocrator Constantine Palaiologos and niece of Michael VIII Palaiologos.

Don't care, we're already in semi-finals. Good chance for less experienced players to show what they got and for crucial ones to get some rest.

EHF EURO 2012 hosts Serbia suffered their first defeat of the tournament when they lost to neighbours FYR Macedonia 22:19 in their final Main Round Group 1 match in the Belgrade Arena.

While the defeat meant nothing to Serbia, who had already secured a semi-final berth with a match to spare, the outcome presented the Macedonians with an excellent chance of snatching a berth in a qualifying tournament for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The two sets of fans created a cracking and highly amicable atmosphere in the Belgrade Arena, with Macedonian supporters heavily outnumbering the home faithful although their team had earlier lost any chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.

Serbia coach Veselin Vukovic left several first-choice starters on the bench with his team already assured of a berth in the last four and the makeshift formation fell behind to a goal from Filip Lazarov in the third minute.

His brother Kiril, FYR Macedonia’s top scorer, restored his team’s lead after Zarko Sesum’s equaliser and following the quick exchange of goals, both sides missed several shots.

FYR Macedonia’s aggressive 5-1 defence proved to be a stumbling block for Serbia’s attacks in the opening 10 minutes but long-range efforts from the EHF EURO 2012 hosts kept them on level terms as Marko Vujin netted to tie the score at 4:4 in the 12th minute.

Kiril Lazarov scored his third and fourth goal of the game as Macedonia took a two-goal lead midway through the first half, adding a fifth on 16 minutes to make the score 7:5 to the visitors.

The unstoppable Lazarov netted another penalty shot to keep the Macedonians in the driving seat as Vladimir Temelkov scored from the wing to open up a three-goal lead.

Efforts by Rajko Prodanovic and Petar Nenadic, who impressed in his first start for Serbia in EHF EURO 2012, hauled the home team back into the match and the left back drew level for the home team with a fierce shot from 10 metres to make the score 9:9 on 24 minutes.

However, the Lazarov brothers were on target in quick succession to put FYR Macedonia in front again before Vujin reduced the halftime gap to one goal.

Serbia will now meet Croatia in the semi-final on Friday at 20:15 hrs. The first semi-final at 17:45 is played between Spain and Denmark.

Serbia had an extra man on the court soon after the restart with Vlatko Mitkov suspended for two minutes and capitalised on the advantage as Ivan Stankovic levelled the score. The right back, who has played preciously little part in Serbia’s campaign, struck again to keep the tie balanced as Macedonian fans relentlessly produced incessant noise, bringing the best out of the home supporters too.

Serbia took their first lead of the game in the 38th minute, when pivot Rastko Stojkovic netted from the six-metre line but Serbia’s joy was short-lived as Vancho Dimovski tied the score at 13:13 shortly afterwards.

Two-minute suspensions and unforced turnovers at both ends followed before the irrepressible Kiril Lazarov scored his eight goal of the match to give FYR Macedonia a 15:14 lead in the 43rd minute, having forced a Serbian defender to pick up a suspension in the process.

A see-saw battle ensued as goals came at either end, with Lazarov beating Serbia’s reserve keeper Dragan Marjanac with a sweet strike from 10 metres to restore a two-goal advantage for FYR Macedonia. Vujin replied with a thunderbolt of his own and winger Dobrivoje Markovic finally got off the mark to tie the score at 18:18 with 10 minutes remaining.

Zlatko Mojsoski restored FYR Macedonia’s lead with five minutes left on the clock and the visitors sealed their win after Lazarov hit the 10-goal milestone in the 58th minute on a fast break, throwing the yellow and red sea of his team’s fans into raptures when he made the score 22:19.

It was a perfect ending to the Main Round for the Macedonians, who put themselves on the world handball map with performances they can be proud of.
