Knowing that figure skating isn't really popular sport, i decided to open one thread for Europeans and Worlds. Europeans 2012 already started( Sheffield, Great Britain, January 23–29). The event will determine the European Champions in men's singles, ladies singles, pairs, and ice dancing.
We already got first champions crowned! All 3 medals went to Russia, congratulations to them! Aliona Savchenko/Robin Szolkowy (GER), who were big favorites for medal, have withdrawn from the ISU European Figure Skating Championships 2012 before the Pairs Short Program.
In a repeat result of the Short Programme, World silver medallists Tatiana Volosozhar/Maxim Trankov placed first in the Free Programme with 137.65 points giving them a combined score of 210.45 which won them the title of European Pairs Champions 2012. Again taking second and third position were Vera Bazarova/Yuri Larionov (126.90 points)and Ksenia Stolbova/Fedor Klimov (113.15 points) in the Free Programme earning them the silver and bronze European medals with combined scores of 193.79 and 171.81 respectively.
Trankov said: “Of course we are very happy and especially to have all Russian medals. We are one team, one family, and we worked for three medals today so we are very pleased.”

We also have the winners in ice dance, and i am very happy that my favorite pair took gold! Gold for France this time, silver in bronze for Russians. But, Nathalie and Fabian are skating long time and i don't know for how long they will stay in sport, while Ekaterina and Dmitri are relatively young and have many years in front of them.
SHEFFIELD, England — Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat of France retained their ice dance title at the European figure skating championships on Friday by beating Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev in the free dance.
Trailing the Russian pair by 0.17 points after Wednesday's short dance, Pechalat and Bourzat brought the crowd to their feet with a rousing performance to score 99.29 points.
Their overall total of 164.18 points was 3.95 ahead of Bobrova and Soloviev, who scored 95.17 points in the free dance to finish second.
Bourzat says "it's a great pleasure for us to win this title again."
Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov of Russia took bronze, the country's fifth medal at this championship.

Ladies and Men's free programs will take place tomorrow, Saturday, January 28. First, we will watch men(11:55 - 15:56), and then ladies(17:30 - 21:23). The best part of competition, the Exhibition, is scheduled for Sunday, January 29.
After ladies short, Carolina Kostner took 1st place, Kiira Korpi 2nd and Ksenia Makarova 3rd. Bur we still have to wait free program to see how it will end, maybe someone surprise us.
After men's short Gachinski and Plushenko are leading, 3rd was Tomas Verner of Czech Republic.
Who are your favorites and are you happy with current champions? European Championship is big test for the Worlds, especially for European ladies, because skaters from other continents(especially Asians) were dominating last year.
What i can notice is big comeback of the Russians, after few years of silence.
