G25 moderns doesn't have enough regional English samples IMO.

We've long established that G25 moderns are dogshit, but sadly everyone and their mum across the internet seems to use them as a reference.

G25 is too fine grained to use for moderns but works for ancients if the model is good.

You can't trust an Irishman when it comes to the affairs of Germanics. His samples are off. His Dutch sample number one closest population is Welsh. :roll eyes

Evidently it doesn't, since you get mostly continental for ancients when your ancestry is mostly Insular Celtic.

According to what ? I have a Norman last name and according to real science I plot in Surrey England and southern England has more of a continental pull than other parts of the British isles.

AI Overview

According to a 2012 New York Post article, researchers developed a "genetic GPS" tool that analyzes DNA to determine a person's geographic ancestry, sometimes within 60 miles. This technology, officially known as spatial ancestry analysis, uses DNA markers to pinpoint ancestral origins, with increasing accuracy in Europe and globally as more data is collected.

Key Aspects of the "Genetic GPS" (as reported in 2012):
Purpose: Identifies where in the world a person's ancestors originated using DNA.
Technology: Uses "spatial ancestry analysis" based on subtle genetic mutations.
Accuracy: Could pinpoint origin within 60 miles, particularly for those with European ancestry at the time of the report.
Purpose: Helps people learn their fundamental genetic history and aids in understanding how genes influence diseases and drug responses.

You have an Irish surname, not Norman. 1/2 Irish, 1/4 English/British, 1/4 Alsatian = majority Insular Celtic.

I have a hiberno-norrman surname that can also be found in Scotland and England. It also, in its original form, originated from Kent England. Americans never really know what they are until one does the science :

https://nypost.com/2012/10/21/new-dna-database-helps-nyers-find-out-where-theyre-really-from/

^as you can see Americans wrongly thought they were of certain ancestries but the science told them they were wrong. You can't argue with the science.

Most people are aware that G25 doesn't work very well for NW Europeans due to shared Bell Beaker ancestry. G25 is really just a way to pass the time. I don't think anyone takes it too seriously.

I assume that the Balts are the northernmost population on PCA, hence this kind of deviation.

No, I think you are thinking of the Eurogenes K36 one. I made threads about this one , under the handle Jamesbond007, and this handle : but no one ever does it !

I think it takes too much computer skills for the average user. You have to use the command line on Windows, Linux or MacOSX. It can also use a 23andme raw data file so I converted my AncestryDNA file to 23andme format.
