Is France just as genetically diverse as Italy?

Italy is widely regarded as the most genetically diverse country in Europe, which is correct - southern Italians are genetically in between and sometimes even slightly closer to Levantines than to their Northern counterparts. Northern Italians are closest to Iberians, Southern French and even some Balkan populations than to Southerners, and in between Northern Europe and Southern Italy. Sardinians are isolate.

But imo, France is just as genetically diverse. Southwestern French are most similar to Basques and Catalans, and Southeastern/Marseille French are closer to Northern Italians. While Northern French can plot with Dutch, English, Irish/Welsh, and Germans depending on the region. And I’m not even counting Corsicans.

I remember reading a long time ago that France doesn't allow their citizens to order DNA tests for themselves or their family. Only doctors or a court of law can order DNA tests.

I've seen a wide variety of looks ("phenotypes") among so-called ethnic French people. I've never been to France but I believe France is extremely diverse genetically among its native population.

The same for Germany.

I think that's outrageous and an abuse of peoples freedom and human rights to not have the right to know about their own DNA and ancestry.

I read that DNA tests are also banned in israel.

Why?!

I don't think it should be a compulsion for people to pay for a DNA test and if they don't care or aren't particularly interested, or if they're concerned where their DNA data is stored or shared, but it should also be a human right that people can be allowed to pay money to a company for a DNA test if people care to know.

I think that in general the French usually resemble other French rather than their neighbors, there are a few exceptions like pas de Calais where the resemblance with the English and Belgians is often seen but even there they still on the main look French, I can't comment on Alsace much as I haven't been there but they still probably don't look that German, southern French are fairly homogeneous looking between Bordeaux and the alps with no major differences.
