The Prometheia festival is the top event highlighting the ancient Greek spirit. Inspired and realised by the Stockholm University Professor of Philosophy, dr. Tryphon Olympios, it has now gained the status of a pan-Hellenic institution, as it now enters their 14th year of continuous presence.

A multitude of visitors from Greece and abroad gather every year at the fabulous natural surroundings of the Prometheus Bosket at the foot of Mount Olympus to exchange opinions, honour the ancient philosophers (Friday, day one of the festival), to breathe the refreshing air of the countryside, to camp setting their tents and many of them to spend the night talking and stargazing on the Mountain of the Gods. And of course, to get initiated to our ancestral spirit by watching the events of the Promethean drama and the Promethean fire that have been the cornerstone of the Greek worldview and the Greek culture. These events (Saturday night, day two of the festival) attract thousands of visitors due to the deep emotional and mystical atmosphere they invoke. Following the main event is a Dionysian celebration until late in the night. On Sunday morning (day three of the festival) cleansing, names-giving and marital ceremonies take place, according to the rituals of the Greek pre-Christian tradition.

This year’s Prometheia will take place on the 19, 20 and 21st of June 2009. During these three-day events, representatives of organisations or individuals from every corner of the world, who consider themselves to be spiritual descendants of the Greek culture and the Greek civilization, are welcome...

It's fantastic to see the Classical religion (nomos) being revived in Hellas. I'm surprised so many have put their energy into Celtic and Germanic when the former at least has barely any records and has been diluted and rotted away by "new age" fluffery. We have much more of a record of the Classical traditions of Greece and Rome. I grew up reading about their myths and cults. These were the first gods I ever knew. I have always felt a strong link to the nomos and mos maiorum.

Up the Dionysia! Up Hellenismos!
