Armenian Highland, Russian Armyanskoye Nagorye, also spelled Arm’anskoje Nagor’e, mountainous region of Transcaucasia. It lies mainly in Turkey, occupies all of Armenia, and includes southern Georgia, western Azerbaijan, and northwestern Iran. The highland covers almost 154,400 square miles (400,000 square km).

When the Treaty of Lausanne was signed in 1923, the Republic of Turkey was established. In its attempts to shroud the Armenian heritage of Turkey, the authorities of the republic began a systematic campaign to alter Armenian placenames. These attempts included the name change of the geographical expression "Armenian plateau" to "Eastern Anatolia."[3]

This is the current map of Armenia, we use this map in Armenia. Artsakh has always been inhabited by Armenians since the dawn of civilization there and today also is populated exclusively by the ethnic Armenian population there. It is just like the other regions of Armenia, with no difference; the same text-books, the same TV programs, the same people.. though it gets more attention from Armenians around the world; Armenian diaspora finances go for restoration of war consequences, and it is flourishing. So Artsakh is inseparable from Armenia and this map should be put in use internationally sooner or later :)

haha, well we are politically part of Europe already (member of Council of Europe) what more can we want? Also, I'm not pro-European, pro-West, pro-East, but only pro-Armenian. So I want ideals coming into Armenian society that will help our nation and culture be better. Not every ideal does that so we have to be careful.

Yes, I know Lusik Aguletsi. That's her everyday clothing style.
I've seen her once walking by our university. It was aesthetically so pleasant to look at her.

The Armenian invited me to have tea. The glow of sunset enveloping a third of the sky gleams on the cross on the church, flashes on the windows of the manor house, is reflected in the river and the puddles, quivers on the trees; far, far away against the background of the sunset, a flock of wild ducks is flying homewards.... And the boy herding the cows, and the surveyor driving in his chaise over the dam, and the gentleman out for a walk, all gaze at the sunset, and every one of them thinks it terribly beautiful, but no one knows or can say in what its beauty lies.

I was not the only one to think the Armenian girl beautiful. My grandfather, an old man of seventy, gruff and indifferent to women and the beauties of nature, looked caressingly at Masha for a full minute, and asked:

"Is that your daughter, Avert Nazaritch?"

"Yes, she is my daughter," answered the Armenian.

"A fine young lady," said my grandfather approvingly.

An artist would have called the Armenian girl's beauty classical and severe, it was just that beauty, the contemplation of which--God knows why!--inspires in one the conviction that one is seeing correct features; that hair, eyes, nose, mouth, neck, bosom, and every movement of the young body all go together in one complete harmonious accord in which nature has not blundered over the smallest line. You fancy for some reason that the ideally beautiful woman must have such a nose as Masha's, straight and slightly aquiline, just such great dark eyes, such long lashes, such a languid glance; you fancy that her black curly hair and eyebrows go with the soft white tint of her brow and cheeks as the green reeds go with the quiet stream. Masha's white neck and her youthful bosom were not fully developed, but you fancy the sculptor would need a great creative genius to mold them. You gaze, and little by little the desire comes over you to say to Masha something extraordinarily pleasant, sincere, beautiful, as beautiful as she herself was.

At first I felt hurt and abashed that Masha took no notice of me, but was all the time looking down; it seemed to me as though a peculiar atmosphere, proud and happy, separated her from me and jealously screened her from my eyes.

Well, she's not that pretty in terms of face, but I like the dress better. I'm fine with women dressing in modern fashion, but there comes a point where they dress like strippers, and that's where I draw the line.

No, they are not even very well known inside of Armenia. We don't have state sponsored fashion industry (unlike Georgia, for example), so all these "models" are mostly students, friends, neighbours. :D Our Govt is not helpful, so everything we have is done by our own efforts...

I thought I read somewhere that most male Y DNA in Armenia is F and J2 which are non Indo-European. Whereas female DNA is Indo-European, it was hypothesized that this was from Turkish and other foreign invasions.

No doubt about it though, the women are beautiful.

Actually the most dominant Armenian Y DNA is R1b which is as Indo-European (and European for that matter as it is connected to Celtics and Italics) as you can get. :)

R1b is the most dominant haplogroup and J2, G, R1a and I etc. are also quite common in various parts of Europe (for example J2 is quite prevalent in the Balkans while G is also prevalent in the Iberian peninsula).

It comes from the Indo-European mother tongue and means "offspring" or "of" in Armenian. We also have the same in English - Bulgarian, Norwegian, Belgian etc. The ian is also used to connote "of" (Jeffersonian - of Jefferson, so on).

Actually according to the source you provide yourself, the amount of "european" genomes in Armenian DNA is pretty much consistent with the Italian and Greek. (see attachment).21312

That said I find it more interesting to note that such amounts of European dna is not found elsewhere in the region. So that's an interesting observation. But ok I won't talk genetics either. ;)
