Spring is here once again, so plan to come out and join us in celebrating the 58 Annual Norwegian Constitution Day Parade, scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 17 at 1:30pm on Fifth Avenue in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

The theme for the 2009 Parade is “Salute to Norse Mythology” .

A number of local New York bands will be providing music for the expected 100,000 spectators along the parade route. We will also have the pleasure of a band from Norway, the Stavanger Musikkorps.

The lineup of over 10,000 expected marchers will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Fifth Avenue and 88th, 89th Streets in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The parade will step off promptly at 1:30 p.m. rain or shine and proceed north along Fifth Avenue to 67th Street. They will then turn right and march up 67th Street past the grandstand, which will be located on the south side of Leif Erikson Park between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.

A short program will follow the parade at 3:30 p.m. at the reviewing stand. Our guest speaker will be Sissel Breie, the Consul General of Norway. She will also formally crown the winner of the Miss Norway Contest. Greetings from local representatives will also be heard.

As part of the pre-parade festivities, the Church Group of the 17th of May Committee will hold its annual 17th of May Church Rally on Saturday, May 2 at 6:30 pm at the Norwegian Christian Home located at 1270 67th Street; Brooklyn, NY 11219. The rally program will feature guest speaker, Pastor Paul Knudsen from Bethlehem Lutheran Church, along with musical selections from The Nansen Chorus. A free will offering will be received and refreshments will be served following the program.

“Salute to Norse Mythology” that would have been cool to see, I just hope there isnt horned helmets:P
17th of may here in Norway has become a celebration of multiculture sadly. Seems like the politicians here care more for including the whole world than celebrating our day. Its a celebration of a liberal law, but anyways one day in the year when one are allowed to be a nationalist (as long as you avoid immigrants that dosnt like you singing the national anthem, there was some teens that got beat up for that) without being called a nazi or rascist.
