So it turns out repeatable scientists and politicians are waking up to the CO2 global warming scam in Europe. Looks more like a policy pushed via political belief a new religion, rather then actual Science.

Renewable Energy Boss Turns Climate Sceptic

A leading energy executive launched a book Monday that aims to persuade Germans, who are among the world's most fervent believers in global warming, that burning fossil fuels is harmless.

Fritz Vahrenholt, 62, a former chemistry professor and leftist state politician who is known to go against the grain, heads the renewable energy division of RWE, Germany's second-biggest utility company.

The book, which is jointly authored with Sebastian Luening, a scientist at the company's oil division, argues that the sun is growing colder and the greenhouse-gas effect, which they say has been exaggerated, will handily compensate for this.

The authors said Germans should not take such a negative attitude towards fossil fuels.

The book, The Cold Sun: Why the Climate Disaster Won't Happen, is expected to trigger protest. Criticism of climate-change science is rare in Germany, where solar and wind power have expanded with billions of euros in subsidies through price regulation.

Chancellor Angela Merkel has vainly pushed at world summits for rapid action against global warming.

Georg Feulner, a scientist at the federally-funded Potsdam Institute for Research on Climate Effects PIK, disputed the book's claim that the sun is cooling significantly, saying the scientific consensus was that fluctuations in solar heat affected mean earth temperatures by only 0.1 degree.

Germany's George Monbiot' turns climate sceptic

„Seit 12 Jahren ist die Erd-Erwärmung gestoppt!“

When the Germans start running headlines like that in their biggest tabloid newspaper, you know that for the eco loons Der Krieg ist Verloren. It means "Global Warming stopped twelve years ago," and it's part of a serialisation being run by Bild (circulation: 4 million) of Germany's newest surprise bestseller – a climate sceptical book called Die Kalte Sonne (The Cold Sun). (H/T Jay)

What's even more surprising is this: one of the authors, Professor Fritz Vahrenholt, is a former environment minister and well-known green activist. P Gosselin at No Tricks Zone has the story:

What has set it all off? One of the fathers of Germany’s modern green movement, Professor Dr. Fritz Vahrenholt, a social democrat and green activist, decided to author a climate science skeptical book together with geologist/paleontologist Dr. Sebastian Lüning. Vahrenholt’s skepticism started when he was asked to review an IPCC report on renewable energy. He found hundreds of errors. When he pointed them out, IPCC officials simply brushed them aside. Stunned, he asked himself, “Is this the way they approached the climate assessment reports?”

Vahrenholt decided to do some digging. His colleague Dr. Lüning also gave him a copy of Andrew Montford’s The Hockey Stick Illusion. He was horrified by the sloppiness and deception he found. Persuaded by Hoffmann & Campe, he and Lüning decided to write the book. Die kalte Sonne cites 800 sources and has over 80 charts and figures. It examines and summarizes the latest science.

So it seems there is hope for Europe and Western civilisation yet. :)

This is an interesting development. I'm unsure what to believe. I think I tend toward the idea that global warming is an exaggeration, although not entirely non-existant. Regardless, ditching fossil fuels for far cleaner(other forms of pollution do exist, an example being water pollution by oil) and more unlimited/resource extensive options will be more suitable than not. I especially like photo-voltaic sources currently, but nuclear fusion would be ideal if we want to progress leaps and bounds in terms of technology and ability. I'd certainly hope for some progression in space exploration before I die at least, for example. Fossil fuels will not last forever, and they cause too much conflict in a geopolitical sense, which gives a lot of power to the countries that control them. So regardless of their effect on the global ecosystem they should be discarded for a far more renewable and less exclusive source of energy. A combination of photo-voltaic, wind, geo, and nuclear fusion would be great in a modern society for local, and national energy requirements. This is crucial to our long-term success and survival.

Global Warming for this very reason is positive, regardless of its credence. Most people are not scientifically literate, and they need something seemingly practical and drastic to initiate a change. Unfortunately the very nature of this energy issue is that it can't be a last minute change, it must be a gradual process, otherwise it would be far too late. The faster we produce practical alternatives to fossil fuels the better. The unscientific methods for political manipulation are alarming though. So it's kind of a a mixed bag. The alternative solution is to have a more scientific literate society of course.

Also, it is very possible that we are heading into another (perfectly natural) ice age in the coming centuries. So I believe the future is quite unpredictable. That is probably what is meant by this:
