As a guitarist myself, I have hundreds of guitarists that I respect and admire. I guess that what is best is to just list stream of consciousness in no particular order the guys that have actually influenced my playing to a major degree. I'm sure I'll forget a few, but here goes:

John McLaughlin, Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker, Tony Iommi, Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Hetfield & Hammett, Carlos Santana, Randy Rhoads, Murray & Smith, DIMEBAG, Brian Robertson, Scott Gorham, Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher, Roy Buchanan, Zakk Wylde, Buddy Guy, David Gilmore, Jimi Hendrix, Warren Haynes, Clapton, Beck, Page, Jimmy McCulloch, McCartney, George Harrison, Ritchie Blackmoor, Richard Thompson, Felix Kos, & Frank Zappa. Oh yeah, even though he's technically a bassist, I've learned just about everything Cliff Burton ever did!

I'm going to have to throw Yngwie Malmsteen in. Yea, sure, he's got an Ego bigger than my room, but he is an excellent guitarist after all! :thumbs up

Randy Rhoads was also an excellent guitarist. Quite liked his solo-ing.In musical terms, his departure was untimely. :(

When talking about rhythm guitarists, though, the award would have to go to Jon Schaffer. The sheer precision of his rhythm guitars is genius. :)

Yes - Chris Squire & Steve Howe
King Crimson - Robert Fripp & John Wetton
Rolling Stones - Brian Jones, Keith Richard, Mick Taylor & Ron Wood
Phil Manzanera
Joe Satriani
Eric Clapton

Brian May
George Thoroughgood (ach can't remember spelling of surname!)
Deep Purple - Ritchie Blackmore & Roger Glover
The Beatles - George Harrison, Paul McCartney & John Lennon
Jimmy McCulloch (Wings)

Not all of these are chosen due to their ability to perform face melting solos, or their blistering speed but some just for their ability to write great riffs.

Ihsahn (Emperor)
Demonaz (Immortal)
Quorthon (Bathory)
Sebastien Robitaille (Sorcier des glaces)
Jon Nodtveidt (Dissection)
Mike Sifringer (Destruction)
Mille Petrozza (Kreator)
Gary Holt (Exodus)
Darren Travis (Sadus, particularly old material)
Lars Johansson (Candlemass)
David Blomqvist (Dismember)
Larry Lalonde (only in Possessed. Guy's a grade A asshole but he was awesome in Possessed...probably because Possessed is overall awesome;) )
Eric Cutler and Danny Coralles (Autopsy, they often trade leads. Mostly just like their first two full-lengths, however).
Rick Rozz (Massacre, more specifically on From Beyond and Inhuman Condition)
Jari Maenpaa (Wintersun, ex-Ensiferum, which will probably cause some frowns:p but the guy has talent)

I'll toss in Luke Jaeger (Sleep Terror) and Mike Davis and Sean McNenney (Nocturnus) too for good measure.

I saw some were adding bassists to their lists? If so I'll add in Quorthon again (can anyone come up with better baselines?) and Schmier (Destruction).

I don't like overly elaborated and melodic music, it really sucks. I like punk and black metal most, also some indie. so no "big" guitarists

A real metal snob, I see! Is metal very popular in your country?

Hah!
As popular as in the rest of countries in the region I guess, varies from town to town as well, for instance, I rarely see metalheads around my town, but there's always metalheads to be found hanging around in parks in place I went to college at, but there's no real "scene" in Bosnia (Tuzla had a couple of Death Metal (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LyMOu5vkhw) acts holding it up, Banja Luka has couple of more "mainstream" bands+ this (https://www.google.ba/search?q=jovan+vozd+pogani&client=opera&hs=ODb&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=gm9kVZGmKcf-ygPo-IDADA&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=915) guy xD, Sarajevo has some Black Metal (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXqI8OJVU-4)), and most visiting acts rather hold concerts in Croatia and Serbia.
