I decided to do this one after seeing favourite guitarists. :p

A few of my favourites who come to mind are:

John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) Moby Dick drum solo live is a classic!
Bill Bruford (King Crimson & Yes)
Ian Paice (Deep Purple) - I would recommend listening to Mandrake Root from the album Shades of Deep Purple to get an idea of how good he really was!
Keith Moon (The Who)
Dave Grohl (Nirvana)
Ringo Starr (Beatles)
Phil Rudd (AC/DC)

I can't remember the drummer's name from Santana, but I do remember watching Woodstock and seeing him belt it out for at least 10 minutes or so during a solo. Good stuff!

Pete Sandoval (of Morbid Angel and Terrrorizer) is so precise and powerful it's scary.

Kai Hahto of Rotten Sound makes you think, when watching him live, that you didn't realise that what he does was even humanly possible.

I'll say that Markus Wolff's drumming is some of my favorite. He's not a crazy fast metal drummer, but the sense of dread that he's able to bring to his neofolk project, Waldteufel, through the use of traditional European drums is amazing. Listen to Heimliches Deutschland if you've never heard it.

Wow, am I gonna be the complete stupid ass since my favorite drummer is John Bonham and I picked Jimmy Page as my favorite guitarist in the other thread. Well, as a drummer myself, I really appreciate his power, style and originality. I do love Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Neal Peart, Dave Grohl and Keith Moon also off the top of my head.

His name is Micheal Shrieve and here is a video of that drum solo. His part starts about the 1 minute mark:

Check out Matt Abts, from Government Mule. I think he has awesome power combined with an incredible jazz feel.

On a whim I did a couple of YouTubes aearces on Hahto and found this:

Another good Finnish drummer is Jyrki Raatikainen of Radiopuhelimet ("The Walkie-Talkies), a dark-funk/hardcore punk/Arctic hysteria band that is virtually unknown outside of Finland, although they've been around since the late 80's:

Vitek (Decapitated RIP)
Krzysztof "Doc" Raczkowski (Vader RIP)
Trym (Emperor)
Hellhammer
Dave Lombardo
Lee Reynolds (Morbid Saint)
Chris Reifert (Autopsy)
I'll throw in Fenriz for other reasons than the above drummers. The Thulcandra demo has been up there on my list of favourite "releases" *cough* for years now where I'll just sit around and listen to the drumming alone. He's not what most would call a talented drummer but still enjoy it nonetheless.

 I neglected to mention. I like all the drummers that have played with Spinal Tap. I will admit to having liked Erik "Stumpy Joe" Childs perhaps the most but they all were the best!! Check out this extremely rare 2 minute interview of David St. Hubbins, Derek Smalls and Nigel Tufnel about drummers in their band:
