In Thrace Christian Bulgarians used to live...they were deported to Bulgaria with Pontian or Anatolian Greeks settled on their place. Also losing Thrace meant losing Aegean coast.

Ataturk even offered alliance to Bulgarian against Greeks. But Bulgarian ministers didn't accept because it would have meant Greece, Serbia and Romania attacking Bulgaria together like in the Balkan war.
