Is NATO more important for the US, which gets token amounts of European troops for the war in Afghanistan, or for Estonia?

One might wonder what the US gets out of risking WW3 to defend the Baltics.

I think the Atlantic organisation should be reformed and focus on the defence of it's member-states and if that can't be the case: I believe a better solution: the temporal restoration of the Western European Union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_European_Union)until the Russians and the rest are ready to re-establish a Warsaw Pact (that includes us):
