Kooky clothes: Antoni and Alison up the quirk factor as they open London Fashion Week (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/fashion/article-24036397-kooky-clothes-antoni-and-alison-up-the-quirk-factor-as-they-open-london-fashion-week.do)

With a dash of colour, a touch of British eccentricity and the flash of a thousand cameras London Fashion Week kicked off today.

Kooky clothing line Antoni and Alison opened proceedings with their collection, affectionately titled "Models walking up and down in dresses", a true to form offering for the pair who met at Central Saint Martins in 1982.

To create this playful collection, they projected inanimate objects onto neat silk dresses.

Ahead of the show - which felt more like an art installation than a catwalk - the designers praised advances in technology and said they had been trying to create a collection like this since they were students.

Most interesting was the juxtaposition of old and new. Tweed and brocade were digitally modernised and transformed into eye catching prints while rusty zips and chains found new life in computerized form.

Antoni and Alison marked a refreshing change for LFW which for the last decade has called on Paul Costelloe to open the proceedings.

Other designers to take to the catwalk today include avant garde Frenchman Jean Pierre Braganza and quirky PPQ.

The week will feature 100 catwalk shows expected to generate orders in the region of £100million.

One of the highlights will be Stella McCartney's return to the capital. The lauded British designer will hold a special presentation in Mayfair tomorrow.
