Council of Europe: Situation in fight against racism in Ukraine cause for concern
There have been "some improvements" in Ukraine in the fight against racism and intolerance, but the situation is still a cause for concern, the Council of Europe's European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) has said in a report on Ukraine.
The press release on the report notes that although the Ukrainian government has drawn up action plans against xenophobia and racial and ethnic discrimination, the disbanding of the State Committee for Nationalities and Religion has "left a vacuum" in this connection.

Racist comments about Gaitana shock artist, online community
Gaitana’s victory at the national selection for this year's Eurovision pop song contest was sweet, but a racist comment that followed from an ultra-nationalist was anything but.
Yet at least one person did not like it. Yuriy Syrotyuk, a senior member of Svoboda party, said that “Gaitana is not an organic representative of the Ukrainian culture.” He added that she is “great singer,” nevertheless.
