Greetings all, the idea of this thread it to discuss and rate beers that we find enjoyable :)

I'll start

Beers I can recommend...

http://www.hi-spirits.co.uk/shop/images/products/173707.jpg

La trappe triple

I would rate it a 8/10

It is a very strong beer but unlike many beers of a comparable percentage (8%) it does not taste alcohol but has quite an enjoyable flavour, so if anyone happens to come across this beer know that Vargtand personally drinks this beer :)

Beamish. Out of all the stouts I've drank, Beamish stands head and shoulders above the rest. I give it 9/10.

I'm repeating myself, but since it's on-topic, here goes:

I've developed an affinity for the below ale. It has an 8.5% alcohol content, so you have to drink less of it to get the beer buzz. Lovin' it. :thumb001:

Some beers from Canada:

Maudite:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. It contains 8 % alcohol and is also the first beer brewed in America that improves with age. When served young, it is very smooth, but when served after several years of storage, its flavour is reminiscent of port. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste.
http://www.unibroue.com/images/maudite-medaillon.gif

9/10

La Fin Du Monde:
In February 1994, after 18 months of research, Unibroue launched La Fin du Monde (the end of the world). It is a 9 percent alcohol, triple fermentation beer. This type of beer was originally developed by the monks of the Middle Ages to be served on special occasions. La Fin du Monde is a deluxe beer made by triple fermentation and a unique way of straining the yeast. This method produces an unexpectedly subtle flavour. With its champagne-like effervescence, it has a vigourous presence in the mouth, which accentuates its strong personality. Slightly tart, with the balanced flavours of wild spices, malt and hops, it belongs to the class of great Trappist beers and, in this regard, is a North American first.
http://www.unibroue.com/images/fin-medaillon.gif

8/10

Blanche de Chambly: from the same brewery (unibroue) as Maudite and La Fin du Monde, but a wheat beer. Interesting taste, though a little too sweet, imo.
http://www.unibroue.com/images/blanche-medaillon.gif

6.5/10

Beau's All Natural: a lagered ale from Vankleek Hill, Ontario
Golden-hued, crisp and finely balanced, LUG•TREAD Lagered Ale is our tribute to the classic beer of Cologne, Germany. LUG•TREAD is top fermented (like an ale) and then cold aged (like a lager) for a lengthy period. This gives our beer some light ale notes complemented by a lager-like crispness. LUG•TREAD displays interwoven malt and hop flavours, subtle fruit flavours and a crisp, lingering finish.

7/10 but the taste gets some getting used to. Still a pretty great beer.

John By Imperial Stout brewed in Ottawa:
Our John By Imperial Stout is so deep brown in colour you might as well say it is black. This ale's powerful malt flavour is not overwhelmed by its alcohol content. Just the thing to ward off the cold of a Canadian winter.

Oh man do I love beer. I drink beer & I love beer. :Lightbeer:

Anyway, we have some great local breweries around here--all of which have several/many different flavors, styles, brews, etc.

Here are just a few that I enjoy...

Long Trail (http://www.longtrail.com/) IPA:

I have another hour of work and then it's time for some beer. This thread is making me thirsty.

Ahh who am I kidding? That stuffs revolting.

Can't say I'm a fan of any beer really, and I only drink it on particular binge drinking occassions that call for such beverages. In which case I go for the cheapest. Usualy Speights, Tui or Export Gold :)

I did live in Mexico for a while though, and I've drank all of the cervezas they make there..

The best of them all is Indio..I don't think any could taste as good as it..do any of these taste like it..?? anything comparable..??

Aside from the strong possibility that it might be trolling, the beer quality here has been on a strong & steady increase for at least the past decade, mostly local microbreweries, though some like Sierra Nevada and Sam Adams have now achieved nationwide distribution.

A lot of beers I like have already been posted, but not any Mexican beers which I often get because they're good combination of affordable price + decent quality + wide availability.

The best is Negra Modelo

I only drink (fine) wine.

I agree, wine and mead are much better than beer, at least the modern kind. I don't really how the beer of olden days was, since it was flavoured with various (narcotic) herbs, but I suspect it was better.

Beers I've been liking recently: Stella Artois (Belgian lager), already mentioned Rothaus (very good German white beer), Malteser (German white beer).

None taken, but given its popularity worldwide i would say most people don't think it's disgusting. We do have good beers in my country but i prefer Carlsberg over them.

Must be that local producers make beers aimed at the local population, while Carlsberg is something global.

But really, I haven't heard anyone say that A.Le Coq would be bad. :p

In Romania,we have lots of beer produced and lots of different brands, including Tuborg,Carlsberg,Heineken.
You should try Heineken made in Romania,Carlsberg made in Romania and from local beers,Ursus, quite nice.
Ursus is made by SAB Miller (same company that owns now Pilsner Urquell factories).
Heineken has a lot of national brands in Romania:

It became the official supplier of the Russian czar and his court in 1912. Now the old recipe has been revived.

Dos cervezas, por favor! World's first beer-ordering app translates 'beer' into 59 different languages

App includes traditional holiday destination languages, but also includes Tagalog from the Phillipines, the Ghanain dialect Twi, Zulu and Yiddish

Includes video to ensure users learn the correct pronunciation
'Beer' is probably the most useful foreign word to know after 'hello', claim the app's makers

The Pivo iPhone app translates the phrase 'one beer please' into 59 languages and even features videos showing correct pronunciation.

After learning the local language for 'please' and 'thank you', asking for a beer on holiday abroad ranks highly in the list of phrases to pick up.

The new app features popular European languages such as French, Spanish and Italian, as well as more obscure offerings like Scots, Gaelic and Welsh.

This is a very good Belgian style ale made in Canada. I was impressed by it and prefer it to Chimay. I wish Belgian styles ales were more readily available everywhere. I haven't seen Duvel anywhere in 2-3 years but this is a very nice substitute. Probably my favorite beer anymore next to Duvel.

I'd like to try beers from all around the world if I could.

I wonder what locals their respective countries beers that I have posted. What do Belgians think of Duvel? What do Germans think of Franziskaner? What do people in UK think of Samuel Smith?

Fuck, the Westvleteren is pretty hard to get. Lucky you !

I almost never drink beer, being pretty heavy on wine and coming from a deep wine culture.
But when I do I generally refuse to drink anything that hasn't been made in Picardie or Wallonie. Breweries in Lorraine or Alsace aren't rarely top notch (they really make better wine than beer).

The only foreign (if you count Belgium as not really being another country) beer I've had lately was the Donder & Bliksem from the Brouwerij de Molen in the Netherlands.

Beers are really good here in general.

Natural Ice (Nasty Ice)

tastes like shit, rough as hell, gets you shit-faced alot faster than most beers, and helps to get that Xanax-pill taste out of your mouth.

Have you tried samuel smith oatmeal stout before? It's very good.
No, but I like their Imperial Stout, very good beer.

I'm gonna have to make a trip to the liquor store and see if I can find me some of that oatmeal ale. :)

The Finnish small brewery culture was almost completely destroyed by taxation 20-30 years ago but now a lot of new quality beers have again emerged. I don't recommend the Finnish bulky shit beers for anyone although some are even sold abroad (like Lapin Kulta). There's one exported Finnish beer, however, that is worth trying:

http://www.nulis.lt/images/gallery/78/sinebrychoff_porter.jpg

Although it's from this big brewery Sinebrychoff that makes these bulky metallic-tasting pale lagers, this is an exception. They've also made a decent porter together with Brooklyn lager brewery. Another one worth tasting IMO.

The Best Kind of Geography Is Beer Geography

University of Kentucky geographers used millions of geotagged tweets to produce fascinating beer maps of the United States.

Last fall, a hangover remedy company called Blowfish produced a somewhat questionable (http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2013/10/could-blue-moon-really-be-americas-favorite-beer/280632/) map of the favorite beer brands in each state. According to the company’s data, collected by a third-party survey of more than 5,000 “drinkers” across the United States, the faux craft beer Blue Moon was proclaimed as the country’s most preferred brand. Considering Blue Moon’s relatively low market share, this company, which believes there’s actually a cure for hangovers, cannot be trusted for its methodological prowess.
