The public use of the Celtic Cross after a ruling by the Federal Court generally prohibited and punishable. The prohibition applies even if no connection with the unconstitutional neo-Nazi organization is manufactured by the Cross emblem as used.

Celtic crosses happen to be connected to an ideology not of their liking :coffee:.

Christianity?

No:

Variations of the Celtic cross or the sun cross (sun wheel) from which it is derived, have been adopted by some white nationalist, neo-Nazi and neo-fascist groups. Their version of the Celtic cross is used by the former two groups to symbolize the Aryan race. [Source (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_cross)]

Ah, I see. Freedoms are being eroded by governments all over the world. Depressing.

I thought they were already banned? I was at the Hess march in '04 and I had to cover over a Celtic Cross tattoo at that.

It annoys me. Those crosses are part of my culture and heritage. As long as they don't ban them in Britain..

They are the symbol of choice of certain white nationalists:

I even use it on my website banner:

I guess next, they'll have to ban the christian cross as well, since we all know who uses THAT symbol

At least the Southern Cross is still legal over there.... for now

Perhaps it's time to pick a symbol that represents nationalist aspirations if not necessarily methods, I suggest this one:

As expected. These Germans are f*cking nuts. It seems that whatever their state agenda is, they do it with a fanaticism rarely seen elsewhere.

Makes me sick.
Next is Ireland, Scotland, and the USA before you know.

Next is Ireland
Nah they'd never get away with it here. Because of Ireland's history there's still a very healthy patriotic feeling amongst our people and this kind of nonsense wouldn't go down well at all.

On the Phora, Petr once speculated that even before the worldwars, they already had such tendencies, where the state tried to control everything. The difference, he argued, was that the Prussians and early Germans were more 'masculine' in their thinking (not a perfect phrase), and more focused in strict hiearchical principles, and present day German is more 'feminine', the so called nanny state, where the nanny makes all citizens ('children') get along ('play together without making a fuss'), wether they want to or not. Not saying I'm convinced, but it's an interesting line of thought.

I think he's on the right track or at least seems to be. If it's true and things take swing in the opposite direction again it could make for a interesting perhaps more promising future for Germany.

You're right, it's an imperfect description. The more fitting term would be "anal" or "resentful."

Is this ban still in place?

I wore a Black Sabbath t-shirt which has a Celtic Cross on the back and didn't get so much as an odd look.

Then again this was Saxony. I even had one working class-looking middle-aged Saxon on the Strassenbahn tell me that I shouldn't be dating the loud-mouthed Sicilian girl next to me (She was/is just a friend). :thumb001:

I'm interested what are they going to do with churches and gravestones having celtic crosses as ornaments? They can be seen even here, so I have no doubt it is the same in Germany. Seems the "gentleman" who order such prohibitions aren't very intelligent and logical thinking.
P.S. I'm about 100% sure that the next banned symbol in Germany would be Thor's Hammer (forgive me if I don't know if it have been already banned).

My brother, sister and myself chose to have Celtic Crosses erected on our parents' graves in our local cemetary. We'll no doubt do the same for each other.

I thought the Celtic cross was used to indicate a Lutheran church that holds ecumenical services (or is that only in this country?). So no more ecumenical worship in Germany, eh?

I wear a ring that has a swastika on it. The reactions I would get, would be a bit worse;)

There are not many Lutheran churches in Germany. The ones you refer to are simply "Protestant" [Evangelisch] (EKD), an ecumenical proCatholic grouping, backed and supported by the multikulti Federal-Republic government.

One of the great bastions of "regular" nationalism (not clownery involving skinheads and the like), I found, is in the free Lutheran churches. (Selbstaendige Kirchen). When I lived in Germany, I once heard a pastor at a free-church open a prayer with "Fuer unser Volk und Vaterland", during a service in front of about 100 Germans. One would NEVER hear that at an EKD-ecumenical church or a Roman church...!
