The discovery of the presence of platinum and other metals is in addition to the gold already uncovered

Scotgold Resources has uncovered evidence of platinum and other metals on a hillside near Tyndrum.

The company said the results of its drilling programme had shown an area of "highly anomalous gold and platinum group elements (PGE) with copper, nickel and cobalt".

Scotgold said the discovery at Sron Garbh added "an exciting new dimension" to its exploration programme.

It plans further drilling later this year.

Scotgold said the geological conditions were "highly promising" and similar to those "observed in major deposits such as Aguablanca in Spain, and certain parts of the Sudbury mines in Ontario, Canada".

Chris Sangster, chief executive of Scotgold, added: "The potential deposit style - 'magmatic Cu - Ni - PGE - Au' - adds an exciting new dimension to Scotgold's exploration program and represents a significant new target in addition to the narrow vein gold and other targets identified elsewhere within the Scotgold's licence areas.

"Scotgold are keen to advance further work in the area as soon as possible."

The company was awarded formal planning permission to mine for gold and silver in Loch Lomond National Park earlier this year.

Oil, Platinum, world's most expensive Gold, Silver and methane hydrate. Resourceful Scotland. Now to commence with a plot to steal it all. xD

Maybe they could use it to pay back the hundreds of years of subsidies England has given Scotland.

I have deconstructed this argument countless times. The most important commodity that Scotland gave to you lot was inspiration. For everything else, there's mastercard!

It's a shame that Minimum Pricing wont effect Buckfast. Labour has new plans to ban Buckfast apparently. Just Tax it to the Max(poet and a know it!) so Neds are paying back to society. :)

More subtle boasting. :D

It hasn't rained here much, geographically its the Midlands but political boundaries and the water companies say otherwise so no hosepipe ban for me hopefully.

Wasting water would still be frowned on no doubt, I think it's going to be a very dry summer here. Last year I got pretty used to using dry streams as paths and sheltering from the heat in caves. Moorlands can be unbearable in summer with few trees for shade.

On resources I think a lot of old mines may eventually reopen as trade with Asia drives up demand.
There's copper, coal and gas in these hills and I know of a technique for extracting copper from streams.
There's also oil in the west of the county too.

Time to get digging I think, China is buying in bulk.
