the ancient Surbi (Polabian Serbians) are ancestors of today's Serbs in the Balkans and East Germany. The so called Fredegar's chronicle notes that in the year 631: "Ratibor, prince of the Surbi of the Sclavonian tribe and long under the kingdom of the Franks, united himself and his people to the kingdom of Samo(modern day Czechs)".
The main settlement of the Polabian Surbi was modern Ratzeburg, named after their Prince Ratibor or Ratko.
