If i speak in pure and fast piedmonteis or bergamask with a sicilian or vice versa, he definitely wouldn't understand anything (and viceversa).
However, 90% of the population could speak a good standard italian.

Seriously, though, you will always find people that don't speak the finest Italian but virtually everyone can speak, read, write Italian.

You could be smarter than us. For historical precision: the relations between Italy and Austria were already bad since before the 1st WW, because Austria had touched territories in the Balkans in which Italy was interested, and there was also a conflict between these two countries for a railway made in the Balkans by Italy. Besides Italy had an alliance of non-intervent with France for what concerned Algeria and Lybia, and it was bad seen from Austria, as Italy was allied with it, but the alliance with France was of primary importance for Italy because we needed colonies and Lybia was the first and most important colony.

On the contrary Italy and Germany were forced by the destiny to make an alliance during the 2nd WW: Italy and Germany political ambitions were put down by the other European powers, Italy was limited in its expansion in Africa and Germany was sorrounded in Europe, and both, considering the economical crisis in which they had falled after 1921, needed colonies for their people (Lebensraum). Both had historical similarities (a long internal division, these two countries went out of feudalism very late and unificated more or less in the same years), and both had choiced fascism/nazism. Differently from Spain, that already had had its colonies, they need new ones, so they had to fight during the war.
But while in Germany the nazist ideals had penetrated in the people, in Italy fascist ideal were not really followed by the mass. When Mussolini fell, the new regime understood that the war was lost. It choosed to surrender, but to don't lose everything, it had to turn the other front.
Be aware that the regime decision had very bad consequences for the Italian people, because Italy was full of German troops/soldiers, that carried out many massacres of civils for ravange.
This led also normal people to salute Anglo-Americans as liberators.

That's true, but if you look at it from the German perspective you see: Italy was allied (at least in some way) to us in both last wars and in both wars they switched sides.

Of course this all has happened in the past, but you have to understand my interest especially in South Tirol, as the population there is even today in majority German. It's good that they have some autonomy, but still it doesn't really belong to Italy.

We are treating very well them, indeed they don't want to join Austria anymore, at most they'd like to become indipendent but it is not very convenient economically speaking. Politically, South Tyrol has a special political condition, it is the only autonomous province of Italy. I dunno how to explain it: it is like the only federal State of Italy. In the questions that concern only south Tyrol it rapresents itself alone in Parliament and even at the EU, German and Italian languages are 100% on the same level, the province is totally bilinguistic.

:D I think that South Tyrol has been an investiment for Italy, we have spent really much money on it, so it remains with us with the current conditions of autonomy, also because there are many Italians and Ladins there too. Even Hitler has never asked S. Tyrol back, but Italy and Austria had an agreement to move the German families to Austria. They had already started but because of the war they had to stop. Now, considering also that with the EU eveyone can move everywhere, and considering that they speak all German, they can pass the border and move or work in Austria whenever they want, so the problem is more an ideology than something concrete.
Considering also that South Tyrolers are soothed with pills of money, I'd say that a Tirolese question doesn't exist anymore.

Nella base aerea di Aviano (Pordenone) sono permanentemente schierate, dal 1994, la 31st Fighter Wing, dotata di due squadriglie di F-16 [nella guerra contro la Jugoslavia nel 1999, effettuo' in 78 giorni 9.000 missioni di combattimento: un vero e proprio record] e la 16th Air Force. Quest'ultima è dotata di caccia F-16 e F-15, e ha il compito, sotto lo U. S. European Command, di pianificare e condurre operazioni di combattimento aereo non solo nell'Europa meridionale, ma anche in Medio Oriente e Nordafrica. Essa opera, con un personale di 11.500 militari e civili, da due basi principali: Aviano, dove si trova il suo quartier generale, e la base turca di Incirlik. Sara' appunto quest'ultima la principale base per l'offensiva aerea contro l'Iraq del nord, ma l'impiego degli aerei della 16th Air Force sara' pianificato e diretto dal quartier generale di Aviano.

Nella tua mappa hanno invertito la posizione dei Volsci con quella degli Ernici e viceversa. I Volsci vivevano lungo la costa del sud Lazio e poi si espansero nell'entroterra ciociaro dove erano stanziati gli Ernici.

This map is wrong, the carthaginians have never been in the central and north part of Sardinia, they settled some colonies in the southern west coast only and i have never heard before about the presence of ligurians in the ancient Sardinia. In addition the ancient sardinian tribes (the nuragics) were good navigators, so it's hard to believe that they were relegated in the inland.
