Question about Alberto "Zippo" Palladini

I'm sure most of our Italian members know of the current campaign to liberate Alberto Palladini alias Zippo. I'm interested in knowing more details of his case, as most of the information is in Italian and thus largely inaccessible for me. I've found this short, very obviously pro-Zippo text:


Alberto Palladino, known as “Zippo” by his friends, is a 23-year-old Italian social activist and member of CasaPound Italia. For several weeks he was in Burma and Thailand, where he participated as a volunteer in a humanitarian mission organised by Comunità Solidarista Popoli. Upon arrival at the airport Zippo was arrested by the police and charged with assault on a member of the leftist Democratic Party, although this charge is based on false statement. CasaPound activists state that the arrest of Zippo is purely political and is connected to his involvement in various social activities.

On the night of December 5th, 500 activists of both Blocco Studentesco & CasaPound gathered for a demonstration of solidarity outside the Regina Coeli prison where Alberto is being kept. On December 10th the Court extended his detention time in Rome. “This is a disgraceful decision” – commented Gianluca Iannone, leader of CasaPound. “Palladino has been in prison for 10 days only because of a statement made without any evidence by a political opponent.” Iannone also protested against the lynching media coverage organised by left-wing media and activists of the Democratic Party. The CasaPound leader added: “We are talking about a young student, well respected in his community, with a family and who has been for many years involved in volunteering and student activities.” Domenico Di Tullio, (Alberto Palladino’s lawyer) described him as a political prisoner.

Solidarity has been expressed by Karen KNLA’s representative Colonel Nerdah Mya: “I send the sense of my personal solidarity to the family, the friends and the comrades of Alberto “Zippo”. He is a generous guy, he has been working since long time in order to improve the conditions of life of Karen People as a volunteer of “Popoli Organisation”. I want to remind him that those who fight for the justice won’t never be alone. I hope to see him in Karen State very soon. “Struggle is a destiny”.

Is it accurate? Is there other significant information regarding the case? On what grounds are they still keeping him imprisoned?

Casapound, quattro in manette a Lecce. I pm: “E’ tornato lo squadrismo” Quattro giovani aderenti al gruppo sono stati arrestati, a Lecce, per aver aggredito un ventenne esponente di un collettivo studentesco di sinistra. Per il procuratore capo Cataldo Motta “episodi di squadrismo gravissimi” che riportano il clima a quarant'anni fa “Siamo di fronte ad azioni di squadrismo vero e proprio, un balzo indietro agli anni di piombo. Anzi, roba da far rivoltare Matteotti nella tomba”. Sono durissime le parole del procuratore capo di Lecce, Cataldo Motta, dopo l’arresto, all’alba di oggi, di quattro giovani, tutti appartenenti a Casapound. A finire in manette Osvaldo Senatore, 21 anni; Davide Renna, 20enne; Riccardo Pino, 19enne; Giorgio Povia, 22 anni, quest’ultimo arrestato a Pescara. Rispondono dell’accusa di concorso in lesioni gravi e violenza privata, per aver aggredito, la sera del 2 gennaio scorso, Matteo Pascariello, ventenne, studente universitario a Bologna ma esponente del locale “Collettivo Autonomo Organizzato Studentesco” di sinistra. Stava aspettando degli amici di fronte alla sede della Prefettura, quando ha subito il pestaggio. Una testata al naso e un pugno al volto, tanto violenti da procurargli la frattura delle ossa nasali e della mandibola e costringerlo ad un intervento chirurgico e ad una prognosi di quaranta giorni. Poi, il gruppo è fuggito via, lasciando Pascariello a terra tramortito. Lui in ospedale, però, ha riferito di aver ricevuto una gomitata durante una partita a calcio.

Le minacce e le percosse, invece, avevano l’obiettivo di costringerlo “a non disturbare con la presenza sua e del suo gruppo politico denominato Caos le manifestazioni organizzate dal gruppo politicamente antagonista, Casapound Italia, cui i quattro appartenevano”. Questo scrive il gip del Tribunale di Lecce Ines Casciaro nell’ordinanza di custodia cautelare in carcere, da cui emerge uno scenario che va ben oltre il singolo episodio e in cui la contrapposizione politica viene sistematicamente esasperata. Le parole messe nero su bianco parlano di un “grave clima di violenza instauratosi da qualche tempo nella città di Lecce per la conflittualità tra gli esponenti dei suddetti gruppi politici Caos e Casapound e caratterizzato da comportamenti aggressivi, violenti e intimidatori, nonché da gravi forme di omertà e di rifiuto dell’intervento repressivo degli organi dello Stato a ciò istituzionalmente preposti”.

Le indagini condotte dalla Digos, infatti, non hanno trovato origine in una denuncia. Nell’ordinanza viene sottolineato che “La prima informativa di reato inviata alla Questura di Lecce era fondata su una notizia appresa dai locali quotidiani e da un comunicato stampa di Caos. Nonostante le gravi lesioni subite, la giovane vittima non aveva ritenuto di sporgere querela”. Ed è questo, secondo Motta, l’aspetto più grave della questione: “Non si tratta più – ha detto in conferenza stampa – di un problema di sigle, di destra e di sinistra, quando ragazzi appena maggiorenni si scagliano con tanta veemenza. Di fronte alla violenza privata, per cui non c’è obbligo di denuncia, si dimentica che si sfiorano reati che arrivano per attentare alla sicurezza dello Stato. Questa è, infatti, una gestione individuale di aggressività che esclude lo Stato e le forze dell’ordine e in cui è la polizia a diventare l’antagonista”.

Che si tratti di un vero e proprio “sistema di rappresaglia privata”, come lo definisce la procura, lo dimostra anche l’ultima aggressione, stavolta a parti inverse. A subirla, solo qualche giorno fa, proprio Davide Renna, uno degli arrestati, in un altro pestaggio di fronte la sede della facoltà di Scienze Politiche dell’Università del Salento. E scontri verbali decisamente accesi si sono registrati anche durante i cortei di solidarietà organizzati in città nel corso dell’inverno.

Troppo alto, quindi, il rischio di innescare una spirale di violenza a catena, troppo concreto il pericolo di reiterazione del reato per farsi giustizia da sé. Sono questi i motivi alla base dell’esecuzione della custodia cautelare direttamente in carcere, a causa della “spregiudicata determinazione e della particolare inclinazione a delinquere degli indagati”.

When is a communist to do something wrong, immediately public opinion pushing for his release, even if the proves shows that he's completely guilty; if it's a fascist to do something wrong (presumed or not), immediately public opinion start a campaign of fear ("fascism is returning...violence...poor young political activist (euphemysm used to descrive communist extremists) beated...etc etc etc".

Apperently he is now under "home restriction" after 28 days in prison.
In the meanwhile the judge that condamned him to "preventive detention" has died at the start of the year and there's been a row over a Facebook status about the fact by CP's leader, Iannone.
This is all I could retrieve at the moment.
Apparently he intentionally didn't cover his face during the altercation and thus he was the only one recognized...who knows.

Casa Pound says they have no proof but the witnessing of the fact byt the same person who denounced him.
I searched the other day and apparently it is based only on that testimony, which really sounds odd.
That's maybe why he is already home?
If I understood correctly there was still no final judgement and the first 28 days of prison were just for prevention...
