The folk play The 'Drachenstich' (dragon stabbing) of Furth im Wald at the edge of the Bohemian forest in Bavaria first was mentioned in 1590 as a small scene alongside a Corpus Christi procession and has been expanded ever since.
Today it is a very big event in this relatively remote region near the Czech border, involving the play itself, a medieval pageant, a fair (the beer which is specially brewed for this event is called Drachenblut (dragon's blood)), and one of Bavaria's biggest medieval camp, the Cave Gladium.

In 2010 it will feature a new robotic dragon (production costs € 1,6 million), which, according to its creators, will be the largest four-legged robot in the world:

Thematically the event is set during the Hussite wars in the year 1431. Whilst the battle against the Bohemian Hussite troops seems to be already won, a mighty dragon, until then kept in check by some ancient curse, is set free and starts to slowly approach the city of Furth. The only hope are a young knight and a damself from the city. The Ritterpaar (knight's couple), which traditionally each year is played by another young couple from the city, also leads the festival ceremonies after the first performance of the show.
