I tried learning Irish on my own, and it just cannot be done! I recommend people who are interested in learning the langauge should get into contact with study groups and classes. I'm working with the nice and simple Colloquial Irish: The Complete Course for Beginners and Mícheál Ó Siadhail's Learning Irish which both deal with the Irish of Cois Fharraige of the Connacht Dialect. Colloquial Irish is a nice foundation for moving on to the more advanced Learning Irish. I have been planning on using these two learner packs in conjunction with my local Conradh na Gaeilge.
