Would it be safe to assume that the surname BOCHNIG comes from the town of BOCHNIA near Krakow?

I am rather skeptical, that the surname Bochnig comes from Bochnia town. Bochnig is not a Polish surname. There are only 13 persons in Poland who bear this surname. 5 surnames are located in Oleśnica town (Lower Silesia). The other surnames are located in Upper Silesia region – Nysa (4), Gliwice (3), Opole (1), so it could be that they belong to German minority :)

You can find more of your relative’s surnames on this site :)

I found Stanisław Bochnig (1880-1944): https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanis%C5%82aw_Bochnig

But it is rather of German origin: https://forebears.io/surnames/bochnig#distribution

There is also Bochnik with "k" at the end: https://forebears.io/surnames/bochnik#distribution

I have at home this book (https://www.amazon.com/Dictionary-German-Names-Hans-Bahlow/dp/0924119373)
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41HnKo3jbyL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg
It says:

Boch(e), Bochinski, Bochnik (E.Ger.-Slav.):
cf. pl.n. Bochow (Pom., Brandbg)

Summary:
According the book mentioned by me, the lastname is derivated from the town-name Bochow, and there are towns with the name in Brandbenburg and Pommern:
Bochow (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bochow_(Gro%C3%9F_Kreutz_(Havel)))(Groß Kreutz (Havel))
Bochow (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bochow_(Niederg%C3%B6rsdorf))(Niedergörsdorf)

I vaguely remember some thread where you discussed extinction of males / the future without men.

You had a radical feminist "phase" in your life?

I also vaguely remember that thread, now that you mention it. It wasn't a "men should be killed" thread. I was looking at it from a biological point of view. With some future chromosome management techniques it could be possible for a woman to bear a child without having ever been near a man. In a scenario such as this, the male becomes obsolete. It's not something I want or support because we all need each other in the end.

I was never into it. Feminism wasn't all that active in the 90's and feminism we have today, that is something you must run away from before they eat you alive, like octopus sushi. I was a goth and focused on smoking beedies and drinking red wine. I've never had the inclination to try and change the world. I'll watch them do it because of the idiots they make of themselves. I'll sit happily in the shade of a tree eating my sandwiches and coleslaw salad.

Future tech could do the same to women...just use chromosome management techniques and artificial wombs. That doesn't make it a good idea.
