I have seen old pictures of icons in churches in Greece with their original Old Church Slavonic script scrubbed out by greeks. I have seen the same thing happen to tomb-stones with Slavic script rubbed out. No comment on this Petros?

They are Bulgarian. Your language was not codified before 1945, remember?

We have a mutual history of destroying each other with the Bulgarians. We do not deny it.

You want comment? Here it is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitola_inscription

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b7/Bitolski_nadpis.jpg

A translation of only the clearly readable parts is as follows:[citation needed]

“ In the year [...] since the creation of the world, this fortress, built and made by Ivan, Bulgarian autocrat, was renewed with the help and the prayers of Our Most Holy Lady and through the intercession of her twelve supreme apostles. The fortress was built as a haven and for the salvation of the lives of the Bulgarians. The work on the fortress of Bitola commenced on the twentieth day of October and ended on the [...] was Bulgarian by birth [...] pious son of Aaron [...] they both defeated [...] where was taken [...] and this Tsar [...] 6..2 since the creation of the world [...] at the end."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitola_inscription#Controversy

The official state doctrine[citation needed] in the Republic of Macedonia denies any Bulgarian link to medieval Macedonia and especially to Tsar Samuil's state and to its rulers, as Ivan Vladislav for example. The historical and political importance of the inscription were the reason for controversy in the Republic of Macedonia in 2006. The French consulate in Bitola sponsored and prepared a tourist catalogue of the town and printed on its front cover the entire text of the inscription. News about it had spread prior to the official presentation of the catalogue and was a cause for confusion among the officials of the Bitola municipality. The French consulat was warned, the printing of the new catalogue was stopped and the photo on the cover was changed.[12]

Wrong... Stone.

The Stoidis Stone was a DIFFERENT stone found in a DIFFERENT country altogether and once the proper Bulgarian authorities saw it, they declared it a fake ON SIGHT. By the way, this is NOT the only inscription that Stoidis has forged...

On the other hand, the really Bulgarian inscription has nothing to do with either Stoidis or the Bulgarians, and it is GENUINE - that's why wikipedia and all other decent publications reference it. You see, neither Stoidis nor any other Bulgarian forgerers could have forged it, because it was found in YOUR country at a time when you were/are not exactly-fanmous for your pro-Bulgarian feelings...

In any case, the case of Czar Samuel being a self-declared Bulgarian has been SETTLED forever, by multiple sources, either you shall ever admit it or not.

Some day you must start writing about your own history (if you ever manage to generate such a feat...)

Nice picture of the white tower of Salonika. But one thing that ruins it is the Bavarian/British, east Indian flag on top of it. It should be the star of Kutlesh.

Other than the hat on the guy, this clothing can be found from the region I'm from. I noticed that a lot of the Macedonians from Western side have almost the same exact attire and customs as Albanians. Makes sense since both people have had interactions with one another.

That's not necessarily true. FYROM is segregated for the most part and ethnic groups tend to stick to their own "side." If you cross the bridge in Skopje and enter bit pazar, it will mostly be Albanian.

Yes I know. The Vardar river in Skopje separates the two ethnicities, (Macedonians and Albanians) but Macedonians in Skopje still like to go for walks in the Pazar, so you will still see Macedonians their. Are you suggesting that the Pazar in Skopje looks like the photos you posted?

The photo I posted was taken in the 50's and can't be compared to today. It's been a while since I've been to bit pazar so it's hard to say.

Here's an old picture from what I think is bit pazar in skopje. Notice they majority of them look to be wearing albanian attire

About Kalchev

He was executed on 27 August 1948 at Thessaloniki Yedi Kule prison. His last words in front of a firing squad were: "Long live Macedonia!".

The source of that quote, Makedonska Tribuna, was an MPO newspaper, and MPO was founded by Bulgarians primarily from Kastoria villages. MPO considered Macedonia to be Bulgarian. Kalchev was educated in Bulgaria, served in the Bulgarian military, and personally founded the Bulgarian club in Salonika during the war. His ethnic affiliation was quite clear, as was which county's interest he was working for in Greece. If your definition of Macedonia is the same as Kalchev's, then you can only be Bulgarian.

This picture is not from Macedonia, but those people created one little Macedonia several hundred kms away from their homeland.

The members of the Macedonian cultural youth organisation "Pelister" in Burgas. According to statistics, until the huge economical growth of the town in the 60'-70', the population of Burgas was around 80% of Macedonian refugee stock. After that many people from the nearby inland towns settled there.

Below that picture in facebook, I saw many comments from the descendants of these people. According to them, they come from Eagean Macedonia, mainy Kostur.

Such organisations existed in every town in Bulgaria. After 1945 they were all banned from the communist regime as a product of the "greatbulgarian chauvinism".

The classroom is 6X6X3 in size, the other is smaller and serves as an accommodation. ” In the school year 1911/12, 53 children studied at the Grubovo School before the outbreak of the Balkan War. On May 11, the Day of the Slavic Enlighteners Cyril and Methodius is traditionally celebrated and the annual exams are held. After 1913 celebrations were banned, inventory and Bulgarian supplies were destroyed by the Greek occupiers and a Greek teacher came to the village.

Oven in the village of Grubovtsi, Enige Vardar from the mid-19th century. The photo is dated 1969. The oven is built with materials from the ruins of ancient Pela. In the early 80's was destroyed like anything else from the period when the population was entirely Bulgarian. Today in Grubovtsi are preserved only the old Bulgarian cemeteries and a bearing wall of a Bulgarian house, which the Pontiac local historian Theodoros (Mimo) Celpidis has preserved with a plaque. According to him, many of the newly built houses in Grubovtsi are on the foundations of the old Bulgarian homes

Today is the 35th anniversary of the death of Lazar Atanasov Filipov, my grandfather. Born in the village of Grubovtsi, Enige Vardar, he remains a young orphan. My great-grandfather Atanas, mobilized in the First World War by the Greeks, refused to fight against the Bulgarian army and deserted. With my great-grandmother, Maria was killed by the influenza of that time (Spanish flu). Today they rest in the Bulgarian cemeteries of Grubovtsi. Expelled by the Greek authorities, his grandfather Lazar left his native home and arrived as a refugee in Bulgaria in 1924. During the period 1934-36 he was a cavalryman at the Sofia Cavalry School. An excellent rider, he happily remembered his military and sports training. He often gives guard at the entrance of the royal palace in Sofia, where he is greeted by the Tsar Boris the Third. During the Second World War he was in the ranks of the Bulgarian army in Skopje. For the rest of his life, his grandfather did not forget the native land, the speeches, customs and traditions of the Macedonian Bulgarians. In 1978, when I brought him a finger from his parents' grave, he burst into tears. He never lived to see Grubovtsi. Today we are inspired by my father and his firstborn son, Atanas Filipov, to write this page in his memory. I am posting my favorite photo until the end of his days, which is kept today by my uncle Nikola Filipov. Rest in peace, Grandpa!

ALBERT SONICEN IN LAKE Lake
On March 12, 1906, the American publicist Albert Soniksen lodged in the hut of Duke Luka Ivanov in Lake Enidwardar (photo is his). It was built with several others in the southwestern edge of the swamp to control movement to and from Voden. On his first night, Sonixen describes it: “In the evening we gathered in the big hut where the Chetniks were sleeping. A large fire was burning in the middle, smoke billowing through the reeds on the roof. At the bottom, there was a large rug on the thick papur flooring. Here Luka Ivanov, Todor and I established our permanent residence. No aristocratic salon was better equipped with weapons; Manlycher's carbine, bayonet and nagant hung above the head of every sleeping chetnik. " In the morning, the Apostle Petkov arrives in a boat with two troops. The American will remarkably describe his encounter with him. a dagger with a silver handle hanging on his cartridge. And if I did not know him, I would get who he is, because his portraits hung in all the pubs in Bulgaria, just in those comitic clothes. I met with the Apostle last year and he knew me. " Bai Postol invites them to breakfast in his cabin and they accept. With excitement and revolutionary thrill, the American will describe the whole world to learn about the lives and exploits of these great Bulgarian voivods....

Rugunovets (Karasule Tour, in Greek: Πολύκαστρο, Polycastro, until 1928 Καρασούλι, Karasuli) is a town in Central Macedonia, the birthplace of the prominent Bulgarian voivodes Ivancho Karasulia (1875 - 1905), Spiro Ivanov Karasulov 1929 and Hristov 2929 (? - 1905). In the nineteenth century Rugunovets was a Bulgarian village in the Gevgelian region of the Ottoman Empire. The city is located in the district of Boimia, on the left bank of Vardar, opposite Boymitsa. A village committee was established in 1895 in the village. By 1900 the village was completely under the rule of the Bulgarian Exarchate. According to statistics by Vasil Kanchov (Macedonia. Ethnography and Statistics) since 1900, Rugunovets has been populated by 340 Bulgarians, 200 Turks, 12 Circassians and 55 Gypsies. According to the secretary of the Bulgarian Exarchate Dimitar Mishev ("La Macédoine et sa Population Chrétienne"), in 1905, there were 312 Bulgarian exarchists and 144 Bulgarian patriarchal Greek citizens and 30 Gypsies and a Bulgarian school. After the War, the village remained in Greece and a large part of its Bulgarian population emigrated to Bulgaria. In a report from Thessaloniki in April 1914, Bulgarian diplomat Socrates Todorov wrote: "Whole caravan refugees from Kara Soule, Dabovo, Boymitsa, Kufalovo and Machukovo arrive in Thessaloniki every day." Greek refugees from Asia Minor, Pont and Eastern Thrace, as well as Karakachans from Bulgaria settled in their place and 71 new immigrants officially immigrated to Bulgaria in 1928. The town was renamed to Polycastro, with Anton Rugunovets (1904 - 1991), Minister. - Chairman of the People's Republic of Bulgaria from 1956 to 1962 and Atanas Kostov (1911 - 2004), Mayor of Plovdiv in the period 1959-1963.

Filipovi or Filipovtsi are a Bulgarian Miyak carving family, originally from the Malorekan village of Osoy, Debar region. The Filipovtsi carvers are the authors of a huge number of iconostasis in Macedonia, Albania and Free Bulgaria in the style of the Debar Art School, where they occupy one of the leading places. The best of their works are considered to be the iconostasis in "Holy Annunciation" in Prilep (1838) and "St. George" in Yambol (1897).

In Macedonia

One of the first members of the family was Dicho, who was said to be a carver and passed on the art to his sons. One of his sons is Avram, born around the 1980s. According to their descendants, Avram Dichov worked with Petar Filipov Garkata in the Bigorski Monastery, and with his son-in-law Dimitar Stanishev they made the iconostasis of the Holy Mother of God in Skopje. Avram with his sons Vasil Avramov and Filip Avramov worked in 1838 on the iconostasis in the Holy Annunciation in Prilep - perhaps the most perfect creation of the family.
Filipovtsi's activity spreads over a huge territory - they make the iconostasis for a church in the Tetovo region, for the church "St. Panteleimon" in the village of Ehloets, Kichevo region, work in Melnik, Thessaloniki, Gostivar, Sersko. The iconostasis in the Assumption of the Virgin in Elbasan is also attributed to this genus. Apart from iconostasis, Filipovtsi also cut ceilings, cupboards, doors, etc. in pasture and bay mansions and other private houses. Worked in Skopje, Prizren, Pristina, Dyakovo. Their work is the richly decorated ceilings of the mansions of Ismail Sarach from Debar and Osman Bey in Ohrid, as well as the living quarters in the Bigorski Monastery.

In free Bulgaria
After the formation of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia in 1878, Filipovtsi were often called to these two free Bulgarian state formations and around 1880 they finally moved to the Principality. Filipovi made over 90 iconostasis, scattered throughout the country in harmony with the church construction that unfolded after the Liberation. Filippovs work together - the old ones hired, did the projects, and the implementation was common, with the profits shared among all.

Filipovtsi made the iconostasis of the Cathedral Church of the Assumption in Varna. Under the leadership of Vasil and Filip Avramovi, the gang stayed in the Varna region and cut out the iconostasis in St. George in Balchik, in the Assumption of the Virgin in Kavarna, in St. Charalampius in Shabla and in Suyutchuk.
Vasil and Filip ceded the leadership to Ivan Filipov and Yosif Filipov. Joseph Filipov (1848 - 1913), supervised the construction of the iconostasis in the churches "St. Dimitar" in Stara Zagora (completed in 1888 and paid 200 gold levs), "St. John the Theologian" in Karnobat, "Assumption" in Kazanlak, " Sveta Paraskeva ”in Cherganovo,“ Sveti Dimitar ”in Maglizh,“ Sveti Dimitar ”in Gorno Botyovo. His brother Ivan Filipov supervised the construction of the iconostasis of St. George in Yambol (1897) - the most complex of the iconostasis of Filipovtsi in Bulgaria, the churches of the Nativity of the Virgin in Tsaribrod and the Holy Trinity in the village of Lukavitsa in Tsaribrod. Ivan's son Filip Ivanov made and donated to the church in Yambol a very beautiful cross with an intricate carving (45 by 85 cm), on which he left an inscription: "Made by Filip Jovanov from the village of Osoi, deba, make - 1897". A similar cross is preserved in the Church Museum in Sofia with the inscription: "Bratya Filipovi 1892".

In Sofia and Sofia region

After gaining fame around the country, the Filipovs settled in Sofia, where they opened a carving workshop. In the capital, the iconostasis, the bishop's throne and the pulpit of the church "St. George", the iconostasis of the church "St. John of Rila" at the Seminary, of the church "St. Sedmochislenitsi", of "St. Petka Samardzhiyska", "St. Petka Stara" , the three iconostasis in "Holy Ascension", burned on March 30, 1944, "St. St. Peter and Paul ”. Their work is the iconostasis in the chapels at the Palace and "St. Anastasia" at the Central Prison, in the church "St. Archangels" of the Military School. Pencho Koychev burned down in 1944. Filipovtsi also cut the ceilings in the Vrana Palace. Among the oldest carvings of Filipovtsi in Sofia is the iconostasis of the cemetery church "Assumption", which was transferred there later, and was made for the destroyed in 1891 Sofia church "Holy Mother of God".
The iconostasis for "St. Panteleimon" in Boyana (parts of the iconostasis), "Holy Trinity" in Dragalevtsi, "St. Nicholas" in Gorna Banya, the new church "Protection of the Mother of God" of the Kremikovtsi Monastery, "St. Cyril and Methodius ”in Chibaovtsi,“ St. Theodore Stratilat ”in Dolni Bogrov,“ St. George ”in Prolesha,“ St. St. Cyril and Methodius ”in Kostinbrod,“ St. Spas ”in Gradets,“ St. Nicholas ”in Kostroshevtsi,“ St. Nedelya ”in Rosoman,“ St. Elijah ”in Galabovtsi,“ St. Nicholas ”in Pozharevo,“ Assumption ”in Obelya , "St. Nicholas" in Slavovtsi, "Holy Trinity" in Kumaritsa, "St. George" in Marchaevo, "St. Elijah" in Moshino, "Resurrection of Christ" in Chelopechene, "Holy Trinity" in Butunets, the new church "St. Dimitar" in Godech, "St. Elijah" in Churek, "Assumption" in Gorna Malina, "Holy Trinity" in Karapoltsi, the new church "St. Petka" in Balsha, "St. St. Cyril and Methodius ”in Ivanyane and in the Buhovo Monastery“ St. Archangel Michael ”.

Artistic abilities

According to Asen Vasiliev, Fruchkovtsi, although leading representatives of the Debar Carving School, deviate from its canons. For example, the iconostasis of Garkata in the Bigorski Monastery, in Sveti Spas in Skopje and in the Lesnovo Monastery have soft baroque lines and rounded shapes, and those of Filipovi have sharp, geometrically cut edges, the cuts are secure and deep, and the shapes are distinguished by a bold and extreme interpretation. The human form, typically inserted by other Miyash masters among plant ornaments, is completely excluded from Philip's carvings. They focus on plant motifs, which work to perfection, but do not exclude animal motifs in the compositions, trying to observe the ratio between the sizes of birds or snakes and the surrounding vegetation. This comparison between the iconostasis of Garkata and Filipovi makes Asen Vasiliev to believes that the family information that Avram Dichov studied and worked with Garkata on the Bigorski iconostasis and that of the Holy Mother of God in Skopje is not true. These iconostasis are completely different from the masterpiece of Filipovtsi in the Holy Annunciation in Prilep and as a general composition, and as a way of cutting, and as a use and stylization of the individual elements.

Later members of the Philip family adopted the development of the braid, which was faster to implement and cheaper as churches began to be unable to pay for expensive openwork.

Archimandrite Eulogius of Thessaloniki welcomes Prince Boris Tarnovski in Thessaloniki, October 1912
Evlogiy is a Bulgarian clergyman, archimandrite, activist of the Bulgarian Revival in Macedonia.
Archimandrite Evlogiy was born as Spiro Svetiev or Svetiov (also known as Tsvetiov) in the town of Bitola, Macedonia. He graduated from the 5th grade of the Thessaloniki Bulgarian Boys' High School. He studied at the Constantinople Theological Seminary, and then studied theology in Chernivtsi. Later, in 1912, he was promoted to the rank of Archimandrite and was appointed head of the Thessaloniki Diocese of the Bulgarian Exarchate.

In June 1911, he supported the initiative to create a legal political party of Bulgarians in the Ottoman Empire - a project that failed due to increasing political tensions and the outbreak of the Balkan War.
During the Balkan War, he regularly wrote information to Hristofor Hasapchiev about the harassment of the Bulgarian population in Macedonia by the Greek authorities. One of the letters reads: "Commandant Milo, a former andart famous for the burning of the people of Zagorje ... is currently personally going to the villages to collect weapons and force the Bulgarian population to renounce their nationality."
Archimandrite Evlogiy's reports to the headquarters of the Bulgarian army say that the life of the Bulgarian population in the areas occupied by Serbian and Greek troops is unbearable.
"From all our places come fierce curses that our best areas are occupied by Serbs and Greeks. Everywhere they expel Bulgarian teachers and priests, arrest the best Bulgarians on the pretext that they are comites. "
After the outbreak of the Inter-Allied War, he was arrested and boarded the ship "Ekaterini", on board which Greek nationalists mocked him and beat him. He was later stabbed with bayonets and dumped in the White Sea.
On October 23, 1913, the Evening Mail published an eyewitness account of the murder:

"On the evening of July 18, Thessaloniki Archimandrite Evlogi was arrested by the Greek authorities in Thessaloniki together with his deacon Vas. n. Konstantinov and taken to the Quay. Here he was locked in a small, narrow room next to the toilet.
On the morning of the 19th, the chairman of the Greek Revolutionary Committee in Thessaloniki, Dr. Sheref, appeared before the archimandrite and summoned arch. Evlogiya, with curses and cynicism, began to beat him in the chest.
"Go and hold on now, tell King Ferdinand and his son!" Shouted the enraged Greek. That afternoon, the Archimandrite, along with several other people captured in Thessaloniki, including me, were taken on the steamer Catherine, which left for Itani the same day. We were guarded by several well-armed Greek guards. The archimandrite often came out of his cabin on deck. When the steamer passed through the great Kara-Burun, the archimandrite was again outside his cabin.
The captain of Catherine, noticing him, approached him and grabbed him too roughly and began to push him towards the sea.
The archimandrite resisted, however, tortured and tortured for two days, he was powerless to overcome the strong muscles of the captain, who grabbed him and threw him into the sea On July 20, according to the testimony of a Greek spy traveling by steamer, Nikola Iliev, a postman at the Bulgarian post office in Thessaloniki, a native of the same city, was thrown into the sea.The next day, June 21, his fate was shared by the cashier of the Bulgarian National Bank in Thessaloniki, Iliya Neboliev from Svishtov, and the bank's accountant, Yanakiev from Thessaloniki.
They were thrown into the sea between Piraeus and Volos.
Back in Thessaloniki, Neboliev was robbed of BGN 850 by the Greek authorities, which he had in his possession, as well as the keys to the BNB cash register there.
Several other Bulgarians died in the same way, but I could not find out their names. "

This is what the Macedonian Bulgarians wrote during the Revival before their Serbization. Rayko Ivanov (Ioanov) Jinzifov was born in 1839 in Veles (then in the Ottoman Empire, today in Northern Macedonia) with the name Xenophon Jindzifi. According to Kuzman Shapkarev, his father is of Tsintsar origin - a fact denied by the Jinzifs.

Рониш ти сълзи, а сърдце распаряш ми;

Metropolitan Boris of Nevrokop (1888 - 1948)

He was born with the secular name Vangel Simov Razumov on October 26, 1888 in the Bitola village of Gyavato, Ottoman Empire. His father Simeon Tsvetkov Razumov died in 1903 as a rebel of Georgi Sugarev. Vangel studied in Gyavato and in Constantinople, after which in 1904 he graduated from the third grade of the Edirne Bulgarian High School. From the autumn of the same year, with a scholarship granted by Exarch Joseph I of Bulgaria, he continued his education at the Bulgarian Theological Seminary in Constantinople, graduating in 1910.
On February 17, 1935, Bishop Boris was elected Metropolitan of Nevrokop and was canonically confirmed on February 24. With his good education and knowledge of 13 languages, Metropolitan Boris developed a wide educational and spiritual activity in his diocese. For easier management, move the headquarters from Nevrokop to the district center of Gorna Dzhumaya. He opened many youth Orthodox societies and in a short period of time managed to successfully build over 20 churches. Metropolitan Boris is the author of pedagogical manuals and composes an akathist of St. Ivan Rilski.
After the defeat of Yugoslavia by Germany in the spring of 1941, the Bulgarian Exarchate restored its diocese in the parts of Vardar and Aegean Macedonia annexed by Bulgaria and in Western Thrace. The Strumica and Drama dioceses were united as the Strumica-Drama diocese until 1943, when they were again divided. The temporary administration of the Drama Diocese was taken over by Metropolitan Boris Nevrokopski.
After the September 9 coup, Metropolitan Boris also waged an irreconcilable struggle against the atheistic communist ideology, for which he was called at his funeral by Metropolitan Mikhail Dorostolsky and Chervensky "the conscience of the Bulgarian Church." Due to his actions, the District Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party in Gorna Dzhumaya declared him an "enemy № 1 of the people's government." On November 8, 1948, after celebrating the Holy Liturgy for the consecration of the church "St. Dimitar" in the village of Kolarovo, Metropolitan Boris was killed by the deposed priest Iliya Stamenov from the village of Harsovo. Stamenov is a communist agent and the assassination is part of the communist regime's increased pressure on the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and is aimed at intimidating other bishops.

On March 31, 2016, the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, after considering a letter from Metropolitan Seraphim of Nevrokop, gave a blessing for the start of the procedure for the canonization of Metropolitan Boris Nevrokopski.
On June 26, 2018, the Synod of Bishops of the Bulgarian Orthodox Old-Style Church decided that Metropolitan Boris should be ecclesiastically glorified in the person of the holy martyrs. Metropolitan Boris Nevrokopski was buried again in the church "Introduction to the Mother of God" in Gorna Dzhumaya

Moving pictures! Tomorrow, I am actually going to the cinema with my husband to watch the Macedonian movie "Honeyland", which "portrays the life of Hatidže Muratova, a loner beekeeper of wild bees who lives in the remote mountain village of Bekirlija". :)

This photo was my great-grandfather's, it used to hang in his shop but it was given to me a few years ago. Not sure how old it is, but the village was destroyed in the late 1940s so it must be from at least older than that.
