Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will soon announce that gay American diplomats will be given benefits similar to those that their heterosexual counterparts enjoy, US officials said Saturday.

In a notice to be sent soon to State Department employees, Clinton says regulations that denied same-sex couples and their families the same rights and privileges that straight diplomats enjoyed are "unfair and must end," as they harm US diplomacy.

Are there many gay US diplomats?

There was a scandal during the Bill Clinton administration where he gave the ambassadorship to Luxemburg to a large campaign donor who was the heir of the Hormel meat company (makers of Spam), who was gay. I don't know in general.

This idea sounds really stupid, since the US is well to the left of most of the world except for western Europe and Canada on acceptance of homosexuality. This isn't going to go over well in the muslim countries at all.

Bush's ambassador to Romania was openly gay.

Are there many gay US diplomats? Hillary Clinton has been rumored to be a lesbian for many years. She is currently the top diplomat. Really, it would explain a lot about the Clintons marriage.

Yup, but also to actually make such a fuss about it I gather homosexuality must be quite rampant among US diplomats.

Not saying it isn't, I really have no clue, but this is just one of those things they do to make gays/liberals feel good about themselves. Jokes aside, homosexuality is not rampant in the military, nor even in the general public, yet they push homosexuals in the military and 'gay marriage' every chance they get.

I'm not certain about that. I know that lefties in the US are always pushing the gay agenda. But it is known that some sectors of US society are disproportionately homosexual because of the gay boys or gay girls network. Such as has happened in the entertainment industry. But most radical pro-gay activist are not actually gay themselves but are anti-traditional or anti-Christian. They support the gay agenda because it is an alternative lifestyle.

California which has 1/8 of the US population & contains several gay meccas only had 18,000 same-sex marriages before voters banned it, in comparison to over 7 million heterosexual married couples. Most of those persons marching for gay rights are not gay, they're just social misfits who's only reason for living is to be anti-social.

It really depends on what part of the military you're talking about. My work section is comprised of about 20 people. Within that group, there are four who are (to us) openly gay, and two more who we all suspect to be.

I wouldn't know the exact numbers, but it seems the world of politics has itself a real limp wrist to go with its weak backbone.

US Senators Targeted In
Gay 'Outing' Campaign (http://www.rense.com/general56/gay.htm)

"It's about exposing hypocrisy, about ending a conspiracy of deceit and silence," Mr Rogers says. "These people work for politicians who are working to discriminate against gays. Then they seek protection from the very people their bosses are trying to hurt. It's surreal." Mr Rogers's first target was Jonathan Tolman, a senior aide for a senate committee chaired by Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma, one of the most conservative Senators. A couple of years earlier Mr Tolman had posed for a risqué photo-spread in a Washington gay magazine. Mr Rogers posted this information on his website. There is also the Kirby Dick guy who is exposing all the homosexuals too.

Funniest story I did hear was the Mayor of San Angelo (http://www.dallasvoice.com/instant-tea/2009/05/21/who-knew-san-angelo-had-a-gay-mayor/) who eloped from his position to set up home with his illegal immigrant gay lover in Mexico.

The world is falling apart.

Of course they should get equal rights and benefits. If everybody just kept what happens in their bedroom to themselves, what is there to squabble about? If someone prefers asses and feet, and another likes leather and boobs, what difference does it make? It's not like people are going to seriously discuss these topics with Muammar Qadaffi, the Saudi king, or Muhammad Ahmadinejad.
