A purple crab stares down the camera in the Philippine (http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/countries/philippines-guide/) island of Palawan (map (http://maps.nationalgeographic.com/maps/map-machine#s=r&c=10.10222665007037, 119.11001968383789&z=5)) in an undated picture. The colorful crustacean, dubbed Insulamon palawanense, is one of four new species in the Insulamon genus described in a recent study.

The crab's brilliant hues may simply help the species recognize its brethren, said study author Hendrik Freitag, of the Senckenberg Museum of Zoology (http://www.senckenberg.de/root/index.php?page_id=647&standort=true&standortID=2&abteilungID=7) in Dresden, Germany.
