View Full Version : My new sandals: keep or return to shop?

Well...need opinions :p

Today I bought a pair of silver "gladiator sandals" (that are very fashionable around here), that look a bit like this:

http://www.splendicity.com/shoeblitz/files/2008/06/metallic-tall-gladiator-sandals.jpg

(^ also, not a very bright silver but a more dark, greyish one)

but strap higher up the leg, similar to the ones the girl is wearing:

http://blog.shopflick.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/gladiator-sandals-1.jpg

Now...I've never bought anything as eccentric before when it comes to sandals... :embarrassed I am not sure if I like them or not, and I have about a week's notice to return them to the store.

So...what would you do if you were in my shoes? :D

The ones on the right has the look of Roman sandals, which is actually kind of cool. The ones that go all the way up are a bit much though..

Agreed. They may look great on you though. Let's see em!

Although I would never wear such thing I think they look good, comfortable and unique.
Don't pay attention to others' opinion, if you like something - wear it!

Well I'm surmising that you have the legs to carry that look off Absinthe. You certainly do have the style from what I know of you so far. :) So I say keep 'em!! And enjoy the fashion while it's around! :)

Cheers!...Aemma

I'm not fond of this style tbh, I wouldn't wear it myself. I guess it really depends on how you feel when wearing them :). If you feel stupid in them give them back, otherwise I'd say keep them.

Anything "trendy" and anything that's the hight of fashion this week is a no-no for me. Stick with classically stylish and classy items is what I say. They may cost more but they're worth it.

While I realise it may be somewhat different for women, I never buy any article of clothing or footwear I couldn't imagine wearing (at least) 10 years from now.

But you never will. At least not without having to pay for it, unless you submit yourself to some major attitude adjustment.

Trust me, I have yet to meet *one* woman below the age of 50 that thinks like this. :p Most like to buy cheap, fashionable items (like from H&M) that they will not regret throwing the next year.

Also, women are vain and superficial and get bored very easily with their wardrobes. :tongue

Speak for yourself my dear, a quick check of my "wardrobe will find that I have exactly 9 pairs of footware Two walking boots, one pair motercycle boots, wellington boots, trainers, black work shoes.and three heeled shoes.

All you need is a few pairs of steel-capped shoes or boots to do some serious ass-kicking. Everything else is fashion and thus gay.

Rainraven
05-27-2009, 10:27 PM
In all honesty I'm not that keen on them :(

I think some of the ones with slightly smaller straps look nicer and a bit more delicate. But in saying that I've always been a jandals girl and tend to not have any adventurous clothes/shoes what so ever.

As to whether or not you should return them, I think you have to go on how you feel. If you like how they look and think you'll wear them then by all means go ahead and keep them! :D If you feel silly or think they would just end up sitting in the bottom of your cupboard then take them back. I quite like the idea of 'price per wear'. Divide the price by approximately the number of times you'll wear the item before throwing it out. If it seems reasonable then go for it :) The other trap I seem to fall into is buying things and then not having anything to wear with them. So make sure they go with your favourite summer outfits :thumbs up

As for the sandals, I decided they're going back where they came from... :....

Not just because I am ambivalent towards them and my boyfriend doesn't like them...

But mainly because I realized it was an impulse buy, and it's a pair of shoes I can't obviously be wearing every day or even once a week...

So since they were pricey I decided to exchange them for something more practical, cause otherwise money would have gone to waste on shoes I would wear...10-15 times all in all? :o

Thanks for your input everyone!! :thumbs

I returned the shoes and got two pairs of "normal" sandals for the same price.... Ironically enough, I sprained my ankle on the way from the shop to work :(

I beg to differ, since I fall in the opposite category(even before kids). If an item I know won't stand the test of time, I simply won't buy it. I've had plenty of items that I would wear for at least 5 years or more.

Speak for yourself my dear, a quick check of my "wardrobe will find that I have exactly 9 pairs of footware Two walking boots, one pair motercycle boots, wellington boots, trainers, black work shoes.and three heeled shoes.

Here is my current list - 1 pair thongs, 1 pair slip on sandals, 1 pair knee high boots, 2 pairs of closed in shoes and 1 pair of Gladiator sandals! I believe that adds up to 6 pairs of shoes.

I've always worn them as I can't stand high heeled shoes, but I only like the ones that you strap up to the ankle. Another thing is I really hate shoes. Barefoot wins every time!

For as long as I remember, they have always been thongs. The other thong you're referring to are simply a pain in the arse!
