I have been asked to introduce myself.

Well, I am Phleg the peg with an extra leg: a claustrophile, misogynist, bibliophile, anachorete, aphorist and political deviant. Many of you know me already, the rest will get to know me quickly.

I am terminally ill with a couple years left to kill, have a crap job and little money. Optimists and happy people make me sick and I have a reputation of being a party pooper and a killjoy.

I have been trained to kill people with bare hands but so far have not put that to the test in a real life situation. I soon may, though.

OK, now you cannot tell that you haven't been warned.

Well, for one thing, I am very very ashamed that I haven't reciprocated your heart-warming gesture yet... :.... I have been extra-stressed with things, plus I am generally notorious in postponing things especially when it comes to greek post services :( But I can tell you the music was excellent!! :)

(the music I have managed to listen to so far because the list seems to be endless... :o)

Hope you're well...I missed you :)

Welcome Phlegethon.

I've just been thinking today ... one of the things that makes me appreciate this forum community so much, is the incredible diversity (oh that's an ugly word eh? ) of members here. And it's not just quantity. We have so many unique characters with strong personalities here, who have been around for a long time in the online Matrix of forums.

Your arrival here makes us richer, in the sense that you are a strong individualist who holds his own, regardless of opposition or perceived effect on popularity. Your posts will be interesting to read and never boring, that is for sure. So, have fun dude. ;)

As for being a misogynist, well my experience has been that those that self-describe as such usually aren't, whereas those that cannot identify that tendency within themselves usually are. :)

As for the happy people...well other than my monthly episodes of supreme bitchiness which do find their way on the forum, I am usually one of those Polyanna types. The word that many people use to describe me is "sweet". :D Get the picture? ;) You too have been forewarned. :D

All said though we'll just see how much of a big old bear you really are...you might be more teddy than grizzly methinks. ;)

But I am glad that you are here Phlegethon. You'll add another dimension to the debate for sure. :)

Please do enjoy your stay here. :)

Cheers for now!...Aemma

Everyone can (and should) dislike females, but misogyny is a deep and elaborate philosophy that evolved through Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Weininger and others.

I can fix that. 15 minutes suffice and I can turn every childlike naive optimist into a shivering, teeth-gnashing wreck that is afraid of its own shadow.

All said though we'll just see how much of a big old bear you really are...you might be more teddy than grizzly methinks. ;)

I have always seen myself more as a modern day Moby Dick. Grizzlies love honey and steal their food out of tourist cars and trash cans. That's not the Phlegethonian way.

Is Moby Dick the de facto 'teddy' then? I seem to recall only having presented two types of bears: teddy or grizzly.

Well let us see what this Phlegethonian Way is shall we? In turn, I shall show you the Aemmaesque Way. :)

You can ask Siggy. Austrians are German-speakers with a German culture. It is as much a made up nationality as for instance Czechoslovaks, Yugoslavs, Kosovars or Belgians with the only difference that the Austrians are homogeneous.

I'm sorry but this makes absolutely no sense to me.

Culturally Sigurd might be "German" (as I am "French, English, Irish and Scottish"), but I'm pretty damn sure that his passport is Austrian.

Makes him pretty much an Austrian to me.

Austrians are ethnic Germans. Ethnically speaking, Austrians and Bavarians from southern Germany have more in common than Bavarians would have in common with Northern Germans. :) The national borders are more superficial as far as ethnic belonging and allegiance is concerned -- especially since the two countries were one after the Anschluss. It was only separated by force by the Allied victors of WW2.

Sorry off topic. Austrians don't like to be equilized with Germans, but they are quite ok with Bavarians, as I understood them. They usually constantly repeated me"we are not Germans"...Could someone explain me in more details this? It was for me quite unculturel to ask them more info.

Provincialism, yes. Having said that, Austria had a long history of separation from the rest of Germany pre-WW2 as well. And its own Austro-Hungarian empire. Closer to Hungary than Germany in that sense?

Not just to Hungary, but to Czech Rep. and Slovakia, also, to Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (partially of course).

Germany was with many small dukes (as I remember, sorry if I am ignorant here), except the Prussia.
